Burning with intercourse

I have severe burning pain with penitration.  I am irritated often.  I have no infections.  This happens everytime.  I've been married 19yrs.  The pain has been the worst the last 3yrs.  My doctor does not know what is wrong.  Is there anything I can do.

i experienced this for 3 years and was told it was in my head. After countless doctors and even exploratory surgery i was finally diagnosed with VULVADYNIA. Even my gyno had never heard of it and took a very specialised physio to finally answer my question. It starts for no real reason and causes burning, stinging and annoying sex.
Most doctors have never heard of it and many dont acknowledge its existance. It can be caused by thrush and can require antifungal treatment for many months or vaginal eczema treated with a cream. Also physiotherapy may be needed as your pelvic floor muscles can be effected and make the pain and discomfort worse and physio is needed.  I am in melbourne and was on the waiting list for the Valvar clinic at the Royal Womens hospital for 7 months because of how prevelant this condition is even though is is so unknown. They are wonderful and treatment and councilling is free.  I just wish someone had of had some idea of the existance of this disorder and spared the emotional toll this condition takes on sufferers and their partners. Dont listen if swabs and tests dont find anything and doctors take your pleas for help with a grain of salt. This is real and able to be treated with the right help.

Maybe it could also be vaginal excema. You may also need to see an expert, as general gynocologists often miss things. I had vaginal eczema for a year and saw three differnt doctors before being diagnosed. I was told condoms and lubricants can be irritating. I was told I could try olive oil (or was it extra virgin olive oil? does it matter?) or vasaline. I'm about to give vasaline a try but haven't tried olive oil, lol. i also do things like use hypo-allergenic everything (body soap, laundry detergent) and have my boyfriend use the same soap as me... dnt know if this was the type of advise you were looking for, but they are some things that have worked (to a certain extent!) for me

Hi

A number of conditions may cause pain and / or discomfort during sexual intercourse. These conditions include vaginal Infection such as vaginal candidiasis, trichomoniasis, genital herpes; vaginal tightness; vaginal irritation due to some contraceptive foams, creams or allergic reactions to condoms, diaphragms; vaginal dryness due to Hormonal imbalance during menopause or the years preceding menopause.

Occasionally this happens when you feel tense, or are not fully relaxed when penetration occurs.

You may try using one of the vaginal lubrication methods. You should consult your doctor for a complete examination. Usually the doctors prescribe some estrogen cream to be used vaginally to women close to menopause with severe vaginal dryness.

Hope it helps.
