Cause of whole body itching and small red spots? (not chicken pox)

Hello,

For the last 3 months I have had terrible itching all over my body, particularly my on my stomach, thighs and bum. It started with just feeling slightly itchy and I figured it was just dry skin or a bug bite. Then it got worse to the point where I have trouble falling asleep and also wake up in the morning because of it. Physical signs are very mild. Sometimes I'll have a few red dots usually on my lower back, inner thighs, and stomach but even these are not so noticeable nor constantly there. I've seen a dermatologist here in Thailand and he prescribed Telfast 180mg (antihistamine), Clobet milk 0.05% (clobetasol) and Prednisolone 5mg. When I only took the antihistamine and clobetasol the symptoms did not change much (not worse or better really). Then when I took Prednisolone the first time I felt immediately better but then a few days after finishing it the symptoms slowly started to return. Most recently, I took Prednisolone again along with the clobetasol but this time it was not so effective.

When all the itching started I changed soap and detergent, bleached everything but nothing seems to help. The doctor says he is sure it isn't an insect bite and that it looks more like hives. The strangest thing is that it appeared out of the blue, no changes to diet, lifestyle, skin products or anything...

I'm a 26 year old male from the US I've been in Asia for 7 years and Thailand for 1.5, so it shouldn't be an adjustment issue either....

Any ideas on what could be the cause or how I can make things better? I feel like with this doctor nothing is really changing.

Thank you!
