Dry swollen lips and eyes, can anyone help?

A month ago I developed severely dry, chapped upper lip with swelling.  I persisted for about 3 weeks, and then subsided. A week ago I woke up with swollen, chapped upper lip ANd swelling under my eyes (top of cheek bone) with the same kind of scaly dry patches. Last winter I had the same eye symptoms without the lip symptoms.  The lip is extremely uncomfortable.  What kind of a doctor should I go to?  Does anyone know what this is?

Hello,
It looks like you may be having atopic dermatitis or eczema which may present with such symptoms on lips as well dry patches of skin on the face. Cheilitis(Inflammation of the skin on and around the lips)is often seen in atopic dermatitis. Diagnosed by blood test like RAST. Treatment is by topical steroids or oral therapy of corticosteroids in severe cases.

There are certain other non-pharmacological measures which are equally important in treating atopic dermatitis. These are Lubricating the skin frequently, avoiding harsh soaps and cleansers, preventing scratching or rubbing whenever possible, protecting skin from excessive moisture, irritants, and rough clothing, maintaining a cool, stable temperature and consistent humidity levels, limiting exposure to dust, cigarette smoke, pollens, and animal dander & Recognizing and limiting emotional stress.

It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.

Thank you so much for lending your expertise; I do appreciate it.  I have since been to a dermatologist who did a biopsy and bloodwork.  I am now waiting for the results.  She also gave me a topical steroid which has helped the scaly dry patches under my eyes but not so much on my upper lip which is the most uncomfortable.  I have a follow up appt today to have the stitches removed and hopefully will get more information. She wanted to rule out auto immune disorders with the biopsy.
Again, thank you very much for your time and suggestions.

Regards.
