Face rash for 5 months, what is it help?

Hi there

Im a 40 year women suffering with a rash under my nose and around my mouth for the last 5months now..

Iv been back to the doctor and used :  daktarin(for fungal) cream for 8 weeks, no change,,,,, then metrogel(for rosceasia, bacterial infection) for 7 weeks no change,,

it comes and goes and i have little spots which are filled with white pus but also the area around my mouth is red at times and flaky under my nose(seems to be when i use aloe vera there, but this helps with the healing and spots)

the only thing that iv been suffering with prior to this skin issue(iv never had spots before) is that Im suffering with post natal depression and anxiety since the birth of my baby 12 months ago, where the rash started 8 months after giving birth..

the only other thing i did differently was use glycolic acid more than normal and then a daily exfoliant by dermalogica, then i had a superficial skin peel(but the red areas where there before the skin peel)

its really upsetting me and my confidence is at a all time low, the spots dont itch but just looks awful..

please please advise..

Hello,
The exact cause of perioral dermatitis and/or periorificial dermatitis is not understood. It can be due to neglecting washing face with soap free face wash or by using topical steroid creams. Moisturizers, cream cleansers, make-up foundation and sunscreens may all provoke perioral dermatitis.
Recently it has been suggested that perioral dermatitis may be related to proliferating bacteria and/or yeasts in the hair follicles.

I hope it helps. Take care and regards.

Thank u for replying.

Can this condition be caused by taking dosulepin anti depressant as the rash only started after I started these? It says ad meds can cause rashes I also had skin peels?

Iv read the treatments u mentioned may not work at all or are only temporary and that this condition will never go us that true?

Iv also heard its caused by candid fungal infection and so antibiotics are only going to make it worse.

I can't ever seeing this skin rash ever going?

Wat moisturisers should I use as it's so dry but I find I get more spots

Many thanks

Nenee

Hello,
It can be due to perioral dermatitis. Doxycycline is the preferred antibiotic for perioral dermatitis but minocycline can also be used. In unresponsive and granulomatous forms, oral isoterinoin may also be considered. Pimecrolimus cream can also be used. I suggest you to consult a dermatologist and discuss these treatment options with your dermatologist.

I hope it helps. Take care and regards.
