Folliculitis

I have been diagnosed with folliculitis, and have been prescribed Doxycycline. I have been taking it now for almost two months and I have gained 10lbs very quick. I am still very active and have done nothing different as far as my diet goes. Is this a possible side effect of the antibiotic.

Hi,

Doxycycline may also result to a skin rash. This will resolve once the antibiotic is stopped. However, the side effects/symptoms mentioned previously may or may not appear to all patients who use this antibiotic. The susceptibility of a person will depend on a lot of factors such as the dosage or the genetic make-up also.

I hope this helps. Take care and regards.

Thanks for the information, I did have one more question can that antibiotic cause a rash on your thighs, it is just a spotty red rash it does not irritate me once so ever. It just started recently. I was prescribed this drug in the military i am on a strict program called PRP which really limits the drugs a doctor can prescribe. When i was on Monocycline I never encountered this.

Hi,

Doxycycline is a tetracycline antibiotic. It is a broad spectrum antibiotic and works by slowing the growth of bacteria in the body. The usual side effects include  headache, body aches, skin rash and loss of appetite. (ref:  http://www.drugs.com/doxycycline.html)

Take care and regards.
