Hair loss since last 6 years, with itchy scalp. Please help.

Hi,

my name is Paul. I earnestly request you to go through my problem, please help me understand the problem and the solution for it.

Let me take you through my hairloss history, please suggest me what to do.
I am 26, been losing hair since 2002. It started with few hair initialy and it increased rapidly within few months.Everytime i take a head bath the bathroom gets filled with my hair. I have dandruff problem and i inherited it from my father. I take head bath everyday, if i dont my scalp gets filled with dandruff and extremely itchy, if i skip headbath for two days or even one, it becomes highly unbearable. I used Head & Shoulders shampoo everyday which definately controlled the dandruff but itching is still there(not as bad though). And it seemed that the shampoo worsened the hair loss problem; I thought i should try herbal shampoo rather and been using herbal essence since last 15 months, i use it everyday. Dandruff problem is controlled, itching is controlled(not completely gone) too but I still loose lot of hair as usual, no improvement at all. I am not completely bald now but noticeably very very less hair over my head and still losing.

I also have fungal skin infection, i recently found out that it is Tenia Corporis from google, but not quite sure about that. Had this infection since around 8yrs, dermatologist suggested to use clotrimazole, it works but i have to use it everyday cause if I stop the infection comes back.

My family is well known for very thick hair and my father is in his late 50's with plenty of hair. But my father's brother is bald, he became bald in his mid 60's. I had very very thick hair before i started to lose them. I used to study a lot when its exams time and only during that time. continuous and night outs; thats the way i used to all through the 4 yrs of my bachelors programme and used to feel a lot of stress and pressure.

Did I inherit my father's brother's baldness( but he became bald in 60's, I am still 26 now)?

Does this has anything to do with my Fungal infection problem?

Is this because the way i studied (but now I have no stress, finished my bachelors in 2005)?

Could you also help me with the skin infection, using the cream has become a part of daily life. Is there a permanent solution?

Hey Paul,

I suffer from the same problem as you. I am a male and am 18 years old and also suffer from seborrheic dermatitis. Ive done a great deal of research on this condition and have realized that hair loss commonly occurs with this condition when it becomes more severe (This occurs because when the dry scales of skin lift up, they sometimes adhere to the hair and take-out the hair with them). I am currently on a treatment right now that has significantly lowered the amount of "dandruff" i have and has completely stopped the itching (i have only been using this for over a week so far). The medication i am using is called Derma-Smoothe/FS and is a prescription medicine that you will have to get prescribed to you from your doctor. It is said that the medication will completely cure the problem within three weeks and judging by the improvement of my situation I think that will be the case. Also, prior to using this medication i went through several different shampoos (selsun blue, neutrogena, etc.) but none of them did the job for me. I also recommend that you avoid itching your scalp too often as this may take-out your hairs. I just want to inform you however that I am NOT a doctor or a dermatologist however the above treatment did work for me and I feel it may be of use to you as well. In any case, have a talk with your doctor and see if he/she recommends it and I wish you all the best in finding a cure to your problem

P.S. the average person loses approximately 100 hairs a day so dont get too worried if you find hair coming out after you brush your hair or shampoo.

Wow, I have the same problem you have right down to the family history.  No male-pattern baldness in the family, Dad losing his hair in his 60s, history of very thick hair.  I've been losing hair for around 6 years now too and I'm 20, with very noticeable thinning.  Dandruff, itching, everything.  Hopefully someone posts on this with a clue as to what's happening.
