I have itchy red skin in my genital area.

To whom this may concern:

I had a small rash located on the inner thigh of my legs, then it grew to include my testicles and the skin of my penis. My family doctor first recommended nystatin but it didn't work. I took it for 3 weeks but nothing worked. Then I went to my Dermatologist and he gave me coritzone, anti-fungal cream and a powder called zabsorb. I have to say that I still have itching and redness but no burning. Its been 2 weeks with the new meds but it is taking a long time to heal. Some days I don't feel itching but on others it drives me insane with excessive scratching. What can I do about this? The rash extends from the bottom of my inner thighs, to underneath my testicles to the foreskin of my penis. I don't know if I am itching due to my shaving the area a while back, and the hairs are coming back or if the rash is causing it. All I do know is that it itches a lot where the rash is. Can you recommend some form of therapy, or do you know any good Dermatologists in the New York City area? Thank you for your time and patience.

John

PS: I am just worried that it could be Herpes, but I don't have any blisters or sores. I am not sexually active, I did have oral sex with my girlfriend, but she suffers from yeast infections. I am just very scared because that is the last thing I want to have on my conscience.

Hello,
The symptoms are suggestive of Jock itch. Jock itch shows up in post-adolescent men and hormonal changes during puberty, lifestyle and heredity each play a role.Predisposing fungal disease like tines cruris may also aggravate it.
Wash your groin daily and then dry thoroughly by pat drying, not rubbing. A hairdryer is useful if you have hairy groins. The damp groin is an ideal site for fungi to multiply. Also wear cotton underwears and change them twice a day. and do not share other people’s towels.Application of local antifungal cream(terbinafine, clotrimazole, econazole, ketoconazole, miconazole) and oral antifungal drugs are the mainstay of treatment.

If the symptoms persist then pls consult a dermatologist and get intertrigo ruled out.

I hope this helps.Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing or if you have any additional doubts.Kind regards.
