Could this be the start of skin cancer?

About three weeks ago i developed red marks on my thumb one a bit larger then the head of a pencil eraser and the other about half that size... Now they have developed into a  much darker brown color and don't seem to want to go away.
I'm stressed this could be the starting of cancer... what are your thoughts?

Thanks for the reply, these were red to begin with then changed to brown. I did not bump or hit my thumb and have been quite in active for sometime, I'am also very intune with my body.

They have been on my hand for about three weeks a light brown , when i press on it , it remains brown and does not go to flesh color. It is not raised one bit nor is it itchy or scaley. Its basically just a miss-colored patch that appeared from no where that has no odd feeling in anyway.

I would go to the doctor but my finances are no good, thanks so much for the reply!

The thumb is a place where maybe you could injure yourself without knowing because you use it so much?....
Skin cancer can present itself as red patches of skin, usually a but dry and scaley but they appear out of nowhere...
Hands are innate sun quite a bit...
Is it itchy?
They kinda look like bruises in the pic, but I think it's just the pic...
