Itching is inconclusive

I have been itching for a month to 5 weeks now after a round with a bad cold and took a zpac. Its been about 4 weeks since the end of the zpac but itching is getting worse.  At one point my under arms itched like wildfire, but that went away after they gave me prednisone, due to perhaps an allergy to my deoderant which I stopped. My head and eyelids itch, mostly head and and temples then all over my body here and there. No rash but sometimes little red dots pop up then go away in a day or so. I don't itch where the dots pop up. My husband has some bumps on his hands (didn't itch but were blisters) we thought might have been poison ivy but were not. that went away with a steroid cream and after a doc thought it might be scabies, but treated for excema. Ive been itching worse ever since and my husband is itching too. SIX docs have looked at me and said nope its not scabies don't worry. I saw a dermatologist today, who was quite rude, and rushed, looked at me quick and asked if anyone else was itching I said ya my husband sitting over there is itching. HE said probably sympathy itching as I had nothing at all that looks like scabies. I told him we use laundry mat twice a week, no one else in family is itching but we live alone. Anyway we are also moving into a new house and so worried we are now bringin this bug there if it is indeed a bug. ARGH help! I was given Zertec and told to try that first he said tgreating for scabies when he did not think it was scabies would make it worse :(

I have found out what bettas are now.  I know them as Siamese fighting fish.

Sorry about your dog.

I had profuse itching last night that I couldn't sleep most of the night.  I do get itchy wen I get hot.  And the weather has been too hot and clammy.  I did eat quite a lot of cherries and raspberries as had orange juice to drink, so I may be allergic to too one of the fruit.

I do find that taking an antihistamine does help and having a cool shower.

Hope your itching has subsided.

Best wishes.

Unfortunately, you can pick up bugs from the water that are not visible to us.  I keep a cold water fish tank and wear protective gloves when I clean that out, because again, we can pick up parasites from the water.

Sorry, I do not know what bettas are.

I was diagnosed as being glucose intolerant a few years ago and also suffer from contact dermatitis - triggered off by wearing rubber gloves many years ago.  I tend to itch (and scratch) a lot especially when I am hot.
And we have had a lot of hot weather in the UK and hubby and I got a heat rash from that.

With you going fishing and being out in the open and your hubby having had a couple of bare spots on the inner leg, have you ruled out being bitten by a mosquito or a tick?

I don't itch where the l,ittle spots are, and my hubby has no spots that we can see. We had ot put our dog down in April, and he was itching a lot then, but he was so clean it may have been over bathing, he did have a couple of bare spots inner leg that I thought might  be mange but it was not sore or anything. That was months ago know that the dog stuff cant live long on people so can pretty much rule that out. /we have been in the new house just a few days, so can rule anything there out. We do have bettas. Before this happened we use to go fishing, but our hands only touched the water, really a mystery.

I don't think it is hysteria.  You clearly have 2 problems.  The spots that cause the itching, and finding the cause.

As both you and you husband are having the problem, it is something that you both come into contact with.

Do you have any plants in the house or home that you both touch, or an animal or come in contact with animals?

Just giving you some more ideas to see if you can get to the bottom of this.

Best wishes

PS red spots all seem to come up in threes. They go away after about a week or so.

I hope it isn't creep crawlies, but 6 docs have looked and said no, but my husband is itching too which is the clincher. STILL they say I don't think so, hoping its mass hysteria, we just moved into our new home :(

You still may have a virus in your body that is causing the itching and the red spots to come up from time to time.

Could be creepy crawlies that are not visible to the eye.  In which case you would need to launder the bed sheets and vacuum everywhere, the mattress, in crevices, curtains and so on.

You may have developed an allergy to your shampoo or soap, or even to some foods.

I am not familiar with laundry mats.  If these are non-biological that will be fine and you can also use non-allergenic fabric softeners.

You may have become allergic also to any make-up or perfumes or nickel jewellery.

People with too much sugar in their system, especially people with diabetes may get itchy skin.  I get itchy due to being glucose intolerant, and my head starts to itch really badly when any amount of rain gets on it.

As we age, our skin changes, and you may need a moisture cream or a bath emollient to ease the itchiness.

For your eyes feeling so itchy, you may have dry eye syndrome or an allergy.  My doctor prescribed antihistamine tablets for me for my itchy eyes and also an eye lubricant.  I have also had non-alcohol based eye drops.

The problem here is not knowing what is causing your itchiness.
And unfortunately, sometimes a cause cannot be found.  But it is a case of elimination.

Hope you find some relief soon.

Best wishes.
