Mole removed 4 years ago but skin is still itchy

Hi,
I had a mole removed about 4-5 years ago on my back, they froze the area with a needle and scraped it out and then burned the area after. It was very itchy when I had it, they said it wasn't cancerous. Ever since then the scar has been itchy but the last 6 months or so it has been even more itchy than usual. It itches in the same way the mole did. Could this be a "phantom" mole if that even exists? I know there are phantom limbs but I don't know if a mole could be...any suggestions as to why its itchy still and how I can treat it?
Thanks.

I have the same problem and it also feels like it's burning at times, nothing to see visibly so that's why I haven't had it checked, does this mean I need too. Thanks vickie

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello,
It can be due to a recurrent nevus but it needs to be examined by a dermatologist at the earliest. Recurrent nevus is a melantic skin lesion which clinically resembles a superficial spreading melanoma at the site of a recent shave removal of a nevus. What happens is that melanocytes left behind in the wound regrow in an abnormal pattern. This is accompanied by scarring, inflammation, and blood vessel changes and this both the clinical and histologic impression of a melanoma.
To confirm the diagnosis please get it evaluated from a dermatologist.

Hope it helps. Take care and regards.
