Hello,
Most individuals have no or only minimal signs or symptoms from HSV-1 or HSV-2 infection. When signs do occur, they typically appear as one or more blisters. The blisters break, leaving tender ulcers (sores) that may take two to four weeks to heal the first time they occur. Typically, another outbreak can appear weeks or months after the first, but it almost always is less severe and shorter than the first outbreak.

The only way of ruling it out is by getting yourself tested for genital herpes. Laboratory tests include: culture of the virus, direct fluorescent antibody (DFA) studies to detect virus, skin biopsy, and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) to test for presence of viral DNA. I sincerely advise you to consult a dermatologist and get it ruled out.

If it is a shave biopsy then it does not hurt much but if the dermatologist is doing a puck biopsy in which small cylindrical punch is screwed into the lesion through the full thickness of the skin and a plug of tissue is removed then it hurts but pain killers are given for this.

I hope it helps. Take care and regards.

okay so it can't be herpes. i have itching below my stomach and i went to the doctors and he told me it was herpes again. i got ticked off at him saying i have herpes everytime i go in his office. i was just sitting in my bed one night and i started itching all over my arms. i hve had the itching on my arms for three weeks now. i put calamine lotion and cortizone and neither works. now the itching is going on inner thigh skin. does a biopsy hurt?

Hello,
Since you have never had any kind of physical relations or intercourse, so the chances of STD’s are less likely. From the symptoms it looks like dermatitis or fungal infections. I don’t think it is herpes as it presents with itchy painful blisters that scab over. You should consult a dermatologist and preferably get a biopsy skin done to confirm the diagnosis.

I hope it helps. Take care and regards.

Hello,
One of the possibilities that is coming to my mind is of pityriasis rosea. It presents as numerous patches of pink or red oval rash. The rash may be accompanied by low-grade headache, fever, nausea and fatigue and itching. Topical and oral steroids are needed. Water, sweat, and soap may cause irritation and should be avoided in the disease. Topical zinc oxide and calamine lotion are useful for pruritus.

The other possibilities are xerotic eczema, scabies, atopic dermatitis, neurodermatitis or systemic diseases. I would suggest you to get it evaluated from a dermatologist and get it examined. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your dermatologist. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
