Rash on scalp/ no itch

Hi, I've had a rash? on the top of my scalp for a while(more than a year), not itchy, but it is dry and flakes when I scratch it. It is roughly round shaped, about 1 1/2 inches in diameter and red but seems to get lighter colored or darker from time to time. Another thing I noticed is that if I do scratch it hard and hold a tissue over the area there is a clear fluid on the tissue, and if i put alcohol on the area at any time it is more sensitive than the rest of my scalp. I have gone to the dermatologist and been told it just a dry spot and not fungal and given some moisturizers and cortisone, but did not seem to help much. I have even tried ketaconazole, it reduces the flaking, but the redness is still there. The hair in the area of the rash is not falling out. Thanks for any help or suggestion regarding this.

Hi
Thanks for your response. To answer your question asking if there are any family members with dandruff or fungal infections, no there is not anyone in the household who has or has had fungal infection or dandruff. I will try the 1% hydrocortisone and see what happens. Thanks again.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi

Refrain from applying alcohol. This may be a fungal infection. Have the scales microscopically evaluated to determine if this is indeed a fungal infection here. Also, do not pick on the area. Apply a thin amount of 1% hydrocortisone over the affected skin and see if this improves in two day's time. If there is no response, have this evaluated by a physician. Other differentials will be psoriasis or seborrheic dermatitis.

Are there family members or partners with dandruff or fungal infections before?

Avoid sharing personal belongings like towels, combs and hair brushes.
