Red Rash Around Nose

Not sure if this is a continued post from the one I was just reading by johnnyzhouse, http://www.medhelp.org/posts/show/242996  ;

I was wondering if johnnyzhouse ever found a treatment for the problem they were having?  I have the exact same problem and it started for me when I was also 15. I put one of those perfume samples on my face, the ones you get from the magazines, and it caused my face to break out in this terrible raw rash. I know it wasn't the smartest thing to do and I have suffered for the next 25 years cause of it. The rash on my face did eventually go away, except for around my nose.

It's red with tinny little pin head like bumps which sometimes has white stuff in them like a pimple. Or the skin is just red and raw looking and constantly flakes. It right around the underneath edges of my nose sometimes partly coming out from inside my nose. I feel it tingle at times, but I try to never touch it.

I have been dealing with this for 25 years and no ointment in the world works. I've tried every gimmick there is out there, even diet change. I've been to many doctors and specialists and nobody has had any miracle ointments that works. They may work for a short period of time, but I end up becoming immune to them and they stop working just like johnnyzhouse said. The only thing that gives me relieve is a treatment of oral antibiotics. This will sometimes make the rash go away for maybe a few years. But over the years I've become immune to them so they aren't working so well any more. It goes away almost instantly during the treatment, but a month or two after I finish the treatment it comes back.

So what I have learned is that it's coming from within and only a oral treatment will work. All ointments do is mask the problem and don't go deep enough inside the skin to stop it. Oral antibiotics works from with in and is the only thing that work temporary... Though I hate taking them cause it's unhealthy a lifetime of antibiotics. So what I am looking for is maybe a herbal treatment which might be better for my health that is simliar to antibiotics..

Any suggestions?

Thanks..

I don't usually post on these, but I have the same problem under my nose and understand how much you want to get rid of it.
I have been using an anti fungal cream called "daktacort" you can pick it up from any pharmacy, it is a steroid cream and reduces redness and the bumps almost immediately but only works for as long as you are using the cream. I stopped when I thought it was gone and it came back within a few days.

My sister also has the same thing and she was taking a supplement called "milk thistle" once a day and said that it cleared for the amount of time she was using it (it is better for you than steroid cream and also cleanses the liver.) I don't know if it works on everyone so I have bought some today hoping it will clear my problem up. I'll post back in a few days f it has. Hope this helps!

Hi ive recently struggled with the same condition 6'yrs  and have tried everything from doxycycline to grape seed extract and everything in between. The only thing that has helped is taking some acidophilus and vitamin c. Washing my face with head and shoulders with selenium and the best thing has been using aquafour healing ointment as a moisturizer. I hope this helps someone..

My partner has redness and flaking around the nose. Based on cross-referencing descriptions and photos, we believe it is Seborrheic Dermatitis. More info here:

http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/seborrheic-dermatitis/DS00984

This is essentially the same thing that causes dandruff of the scalp, except occurring in sebaceous glands on the face (such as around the nose).

I previously was able to eradicate a case of dandruff by stopping use of particular hair products (e.g. gel), and by putting neem oil on my scalp. I intend to try using neem oil in this case to see if it cures this current condition.

Good luck!

Hi all, I have had this for the past 4 months! Here is an image:
http://img822.imageshack.us/img822/3955/noserashphoto.jpg

Tender and painful red bumpbs around the inside of my nostrils. The more I touch it the more it flares up.

I also got this 7 years ago (after 5 months of being in a new city), and then just again got it a few months ago (10 months after being also in a new city). Both of these times I am living in older apartments with no central air, also have pretty stressful jobs. I also have very fair skin. Last time the only way it improved was when I moved back to the the east coast in with my parents. Doctor said it is seborheic dermatitis and gave me locoid steroid cream. It helped but i have to use it twice a day to keep the rash away! After a few months it has become less effective. I went to a different doctor who just gave me antibiotic pills and mupirocin antibiotic cream. I have been on these for 3 days now and no improvement. This is so stressful.

I am now wondering if it has to do with shampoo, toothpaste, or diet. I do tend to eat sweets everyday. What toothpaste and shampoo are you all switching to, if that helped?

I have been battling this for so long... sigh... just so you know you are not alone here is a pic (looks just like yours). Pin sized red dots around the corners of the nose...

Mine - http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=2zpm88j&s=6
Yours - http://img131.imageshack.us/img131/2695/picture009lm5.jpg

It started 15 years ago when I get a bad cold, and was made worse by some hydrocortisone cream. I FINALLY went to the doctor about it recently, and he gave me Ketoconazole cream and 40mg Orecea, but after a solid month of both, I saw no change in the redness.

After skimming through this thread, it sounds like two things that have worked for others are liquid Erythromycin and Minocycline? Is there anything else I should consider?

I am determined to get this cleared up! 15 years... Ive had enough. But it sounds like I need to make another trip back to the doctor :(
