itchy red bumps on hand

Hi,
I have itchy red bumps on top of my left hand in an area about 1 x 1 inch square. The bumps are pretty close together & there are about 8-10 bumps.   If I scratch it, it gets worse, but its not spreading.  I had this come up a few times before at exactly the same spot on my hand then goes away the next day.  I've been diagnosed with Herpes 1 or HSV1, is this related to that?  These rashes actually came up after I came back from a trip to Los Angeles.  I do recall sleeping on my belly in the hotel with my left hand under the pillow for about an hour.  Could I have caught some kind of infection from a dirty pillow?  Is this something caused by eczema?  Please help & thanks in advance!

I have something very similar to what you are talking about. Only mine come every few months, stay for a week or two, and can sometimes get on both of my hands. They are very annoying and im still not sure what they are. I can't find anything about them on the web. But for the itching, get a tube of Gold Bond Anti-Itch cream. Its a lifesaver!

DOC,
Thanks for the advice, I did try the Calamine lotion & Cortizone but did not help.  The bumps are still there & itches like crazy.  I'm trying real hard not to scratch at it.  What else could this be?  It's only isolated to the top of my left hand @ the same area.  Thanks.

Hi,
It does  seem like an allergic reaction. In a person with allergies, the immune response is oversensitive. When it recognizes an allergen, it releases chemicals, such as histamines. This causes itching, swelling, mucus production, muscle spasms, hives, rashes, and other symptoms, which vary from person to person.
It could be due to an insect bite or even some allergen that is not known to you.
Short-acting antihistamines are generally available over-the-counter. They help relieve mild to moderate symptoms but may cause drowsiness. Loratadine (Claritin) does not tend to cause drowsiness.
You can apply Calamine lotion to the area of the rash.
