Redess on glans of Penis

Hi,

My name is David, I'm white, aged 23 and in very good physical shape. Here is my problem.

About 6 months ago my girlfriend started getting the symptoms of thrush and then i started getting them too, on my penis - redness of the glans of the penis, small red spots, itchyness, mild burning sensation and mild discomfort when passing urine and ejaculating. My girlfriend went to her GP and the doctor thought she had thrush but couldnt be sure, and after a month or so all her symptoms cleared up with thrush treatment. So i got some antifungal cream and started applying it to my penis twice a day. After a week or so the bulk of the red spots died down along with the itchyness, but the head of my penis was still slightly more red than normal, so i went to my GP who thought nothing of it and told me to get some more antifungal cream, he wasnt even sure i had thrush. So i applied that for another 2 weeks along with careful daily hygine (with no soap) and 2 weeks of abstinance. After that the redness still remained. So i ignored it for a while. Then a few months later after having unprotected sex with my girlfriend the same symptoms as before returned to both of us. So i went back to my GP who gave me a clymida test, different antifungal cream and some moisturiser (Oilatum). The clymida test came back clear (unsuprisingly as i have just been wit the one girl for the last 4 years), and after another 2 weeks of appling creams and moisturiser the main symptoms went away but the redness, mild buring sensation and occasional mild burning when ejaculating remained like before. So i went to a different GP. Who thought my penis looked completely healthy but prescribed antifungal tablets and a steriod cream. 2 more weeks have passed now and the there has been no improvement. Also, along with these symptoms i have had a mild burning in my anus after i use the toilet, once i shower without using soap it goes away.

One GP said i might have become sensitive to condoms, but after 2 weeks of abstinence the redness remained. I might try using non-latex condoms. If i dont use condoms at all i'm fairly certain myself and my girlfriend will be back to square one. I am thinking about this a lot, but my penis is definitely more red than it was. When i am erect the skin becomes shiny, dry and wrinkled.

I'm fairly sure i dont have diabetes. I have good personal hygine - shower most days without soaps. I'm very fit and strong. I'm also uncircumcised. Can you help me please as i am sick to death of it and its stopping me fully enjoying my sex life. Any advice would be great.

Cheers, Dave

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello,
It can be due to eczema skin or chafing skin. Eczema is a form of chronic dermatitis (rash).Allergic reaction is one of the important causes of eczema. Allergic reaction can occur to strong soaps, Solvents, chemicals, certain foods, food additives, plants, metals, cosmetics, even urine and faeces of some animals (dust mites).
Do not use any cosmetic products at the sites. You can apply some calamine lotion at the rash as it will help in soothing the skin. For mild-moderate symptoms a weak steroid may be used, whilst more severe cases require a higher-potency steroid which is available under prescription.

For the itching take some antihistaminic like Benadryl. If the symptoms persist then get an evaluation done from a dermatologist.

It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.

Thanks for all your help. I really appriciate it. My symptoms appear to be slowly improving now. Since i stopped putting antifungal cream on, things have been returning to normal at long last.

Thanks again,

Dave.

I believe you and your girlfriend are passing eachother a yeast or fungal infection, don't worry thats very commun. Check online for pictures of balanitis to see if your redness looks the same as in the pictures. I was uncircumcised and at the age of 43 I started getting redness and irritation in my glans and foreskin for no reason.  Any ways I can tell you more of what I went through. but at the end I had a circumsicion and everything cleared and healed inmediately. Before my surgery the balanitis lasted for 1.5 years. I'm not saying you need  circumsicion, but get second or third opinions from more doctors.
