Scrotum irritation

For the past week, my scrotum would give out a burning sensation when it gets moist from sweating (active) due to rubbing. In the beginning, it would rub and cause a rash on my inner thigh. I have since treated it with clotrimazole and it got rid of the rash on my thigh for the most part. But I still have irritation from my scrotum rubbing aganist my thigh and boxer when it starts to sweat and get moist, mainly the sides where it rubs the most. After I shower, I would dry it completely and apply clotrimazole and goldbond. It would provide temporary relief until I start to sweat again. I had this condition before but never this long which I find really strange. Is this just really bad case of jock itch?

Dr.,
Should I continue treating it with clotrimazole or seek other alternative?

Hey Doctor,

Thanks for your quick response. I just got back from the gym and can feel some irritation down there. I am an active 25 year old and hardly remembered the last time I had this. I don't have any allergies nor am I on any medication etc. Should I continue treating it with clotrimazole (its been about a week) or step it up with another type of anti-fungal meds like Lamisil (terbinafine)?

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi,

Yes, this appears to be a case of fungal infection with probably an overlying dermatitis. A fungal infection is a chronic condition and may be recurrent given the right conditions. In your case, the condition seems to be aggravated by sweating. It is important to keep the area clean and dry always . Change underpants or shorts when there is excessive sweating.

How old are you?

Do you have any known allergies?

Any use of steroids as supplements or for medical therapy (eg asthma)?
