Shiny, waxy skin

I am 51  years old and being  investigated for an autoimmune disorder. Recently my skin on my legs and now beginning on my face have become shiny and waxy. It is really strange to touch especially the skin around my knees.
I'd really appreciate it if anyone knows what causes this and what disease it is related to.

thank you
mixed blessings
