Swelling, redness around right eye - nothing works

I have had redness, burning, itching, and a lot of swelling around my right eye (only) for 2 weeks now.  I have seen two doctors and have been given several different meds to use, but nothing seems to help this problem.  I do not know what caused it either.  First I was given antihistime eye drops and took Benedryl.  Then I was given steroid drops, then antibiotic drops.   I use cold compresses which make it feel better but the swelling is still there.  Nothing has worked.  Can anyone give me suggestions to reduce the swelling?

Hi,
You mightbe developing  peri-orbital cellulitis which is an inflammation of the soft tissue surrounding the eye.

It can be caused by spread of infection from another focus ( maybe sinusitis) or also be caused by an insect bite at the site.

You need to see an ophthalmologist to get it assessed and rule out any other problems.A courseof antibiotics and pain-killers are required to treat the condition.

If it was an allergic reaction , it should have improved by now.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi

Was a complete ophthalmologic consult done?

A superficial skin problem may be a differential here however, if this has been present for weeks now, then an underlying eye disorder has to be excluded. A complete ophthalmologic examination is necessary. Soft tissue infections near the area may also have to be considered. If the problem persists and if the redness, eye tearing and discharge are present ,then you may need to have this assessed by your physician. An MRI scan may help as well as autoimmune conditions may need to be ruled out.
