What is it?

I have irritated skin on both my leg ever since I started shaving in middle school. Since then, I have never worn shorts, skirts, etc. I'm 20 now and this is really bringing down my self esteem big time. Can anyone help?

Hello,
For irritated skin after shaving or waxing, apply cold compresses(ice cubes wrapped in a towel) on the rash and take some antihistaminic like benadryl or claritin. You can also apply calamine lotion on the rash.It will help in soothing the skin. A mild corticosteroid cream like dermacort will also help but should be used under a dermatologist’s guidance.

Also you can go in for laser hair removal which causes permanent reduction of hair.
It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.

Hi there,
Dry skin, razor bumps are common after shaving. You may take certain care to prevent these from occurring. The best time to shave is towards the end of your shower or bath .This allows the skin to soften up and that is the best time to shave. Application of hydrocortisone cream immediately after shaving may reduce the sting and redness caused by shaving. Use of moisturizing lotion can reduce the impact of dry skin after shaving. Do consult a dermatologist if the symptoms are severe.
Best luck and regards!
