fungal infection on face? Confused!

Hi, I have a question that I hope can get answered.  I have seen 3 doctors for this, not yet a dermatologist which I will see soon if the third hasn't figured it out...well

I had a pimple on my cheek by my lip over a month ago, and I picked it.  IT seemed to get better, but then it just got reall red and itchy.  it used to be very small, and has since become larger and is no longer round, but perhpas oval.  It gets very scaley and itchy.  I originally thought it might me a cold sore or impetigo, but those were ruled out by all doctors, then followed by "but I'm not sure what it is exactly".  I am currently almost 38 weeks pregnant, so they don't erally want to give me some crazy medication, but my last doctor told me to put neosporin on it for a week to see what happens and if it doesnt' get better she will give me an anitfungal med.  I really don't want to just take random medications to see if they work.

Since it started out as  apimple that I think got infected, can this still be a fungal issue?  I am so confused and am worried aobut spreading it.  any help would be great.  thank you.

Hi,

I understand this can be very discomforting for you.

This may have started as a pimple or acne but an overlying fungal infection may also be present. The presence of infection may disrupt the normal flora that usually inhabits the skin. Continue with your medication as you are seemingly responding to it.At this point, your physician has to manage you conservatively with certain medications because of your pregnancy.

Just avoid sharing towels with family members .Practice frequent handwashing and avoid unnecessarily touching the area. Use only mild and bland soaps to wash your face.A light hypoallergenic cream may be used to moisturize the skin.
