help for keratolysis exfoliativa

I've been reading all the posts and they have been so helpful!  My 17 yr. old son is suffering from K.E. and we've been to two doctors and have been given two steroid creams and told to use the AmLactin in between bouts.  All of this makes it worse and here's why:  the steroids have been shown to have no effect on this type of eczema and will thin the skin ultimately making the condition worse than before because it will now be harder for this thin skin to hold the required amount of moisture in the tissues.  There is no real "cure" for K.E. so it must be treated symptomatically.  I found an ointment, completely by accident, and figured there couldn't be any harm in trying what I thought was a long shot - guess what?!  It works beautifully!!  It's called Hemp Hand Protector and is sold at The Body Shop.  It's $18.00 for a large tube.  At first I balked at the price but even with insurance for the doctors visits they still cost $20 a pop and he was getting worse, not better.  Here's our routine - first "wash" your hands with a mixture of baby oil (or fragrance free mineral oil) and white table sugar.  This is a natural, non-drying exfoliant.  Don't rub super hard because you don't want to damage the new skin growing in.  Rinse this off with cool water and then dry your hands.  Glob on the Hemp stuff.   Reapply when you feel you need it.  Put cotton socks over your hands at bedtime after you put on the cream.  I'm in nursing school and have real faith in medicine but over the years have discovered that the more you stick to natural and basic the better your body responds.  This routine has completely healed his hands - and they looked like he had a flesh eating disease!  Good luck - don't lose hope!

I wanted to ask if your son came in contact with water or any kind of friction, does the peeling seem to get worse? Does the Hemp Hand Protector help quite a bit? I can't touch water or use my hands too much as it aggravates it more. Thanks!

Hello - thanks so much for posting this - I'm going to order some of this cream right now. I have the same condition that I've been suffering with for as long as I can remember.

Fungus & allergies have been ruled out, and I even tried photo chemotherapy for exfoliative keratolisis but it didn't work :(

I went to a spa where a woman said her client had the same issue, and was prescribed some kind of cream Do you  called 17% (something that begins with L and ends in -ine) but I can't figure out what this is and I no longer have health insurance to experiment with the dermatologist anymore but would love to hear if anyone has heard about anything like this!

I also have had this condition for over 20 years.  Originally just the palms of my hands and then went to soles of feet.  Tried everything and everyone.  When having my yearly skin check the doctor took a photo of my feet and sent it to a friend (skin specialist) who diagnosed it.  I might say I had been to 2 specialists myself who did not know what it was.  I will now try your hemp stuff.  I recently paid $100 for the Bliss products this is these socks you put on for 20 minutes after rubbing in their cream.  Do this twice a week.  Your feet do feel soft afterwards but did not do anything in the end.  So $18 seems cheap to me.  I have also gone the cleanse from within route.  That cost heaps and did nothing in the end.
