hot oil burn on foot

hi, I did a very stupid thing.  I left a pot full of hot oil on the stove and it started on fire.  We got the pot outside and it was still on fire and wouldnt go out so I threw water on it and the fire got me.  It burnt my leg and my foot.  My leg on seems not to bad even though its still really red.  My foot throbs in pain all the time and is very red and looks very deep.  The throbbing is like when you put a rubber band around your finger to tight.  It happened a week ago. I don't want to go to the doctor unless I really need to but I don't know if I need to or not.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks,

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL

Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
You appear o be having scalds on the skin due to hot oil, which causes more damage than hot water due to higher temperature and stickiness. Do not burst any blister on your own. Apply any moisturizer or calamine lotion on this to soothe the pain and take any OTC painkiller such as ibuprofen. You can even apply an antibacterial cream when the skin starts peeling. However, since the degree of burn cannot be assessed on net and second and third degree burns which run deeper than skin need medical treatment, it would be wiser to consult a doctor once.
Hope this helps. Take care!
