Hi all,

24yr old male... hair loss doesn't exist in neither my Father or Mother's blood-line.

About 6 weeks ago I was having a hair-cut and it was pointed out to me that I have a bald spot on the back left hand side of my head. At the time it was about the size of a 50cent coin.... it has now doubled in size and if I tug at the hair around it - it falls out fairly easily compared to the rest of the hair on  my head.

Is this what you would call Alopecia Areata?

How much will it spread?

These steroid injections/tablets I hear of - do they work for everyone, or only a small % of people?

The last thing I needed in my life was this... been quite a lot of depressing news the last few years in regards to my health.

Any help / answers would be greatly appreciated.

Will make an appointment to see a Doctor who will most likely tell me to see a Dermatologist.

My bald spot has a lil red in it and tingles sometimes,,, did u feel the same things? I think i have alopecia areata though i am not sure. please message me back to ease my mind, i know it sounds crazy but it was kind of comforting to see your pic knowing someone else has gone through the same thing at 23.

Hi,

There could be several causes for your symptoms - this is most probably - alopecia areata -

You could read about it at -

http://www.emedicine.com/DERM/topic14.htm

You would need to see your dermatologist for the definite diagnosis and the cause of symptoms in your case.

Let us know about how you are doing and what your doctor advises.

Regards.

Hi,
You are either having Alopecia areata or Androgenic Alopecia.
Androgenic alopecia is hair loss occurring in either sex, caused by stimulation of the hair roots by male hormones.
Alopecia areata is patchy, non-scarring hair loss.
You can also have Tinea capitis which suggests patches of hair broken off close to the scalp, with or without associated inflammation, caused by fungus infection.
Your symptoms could either be due to auto immune process or due to excessive secretion of male hormones.
You can try using topical minoxidil solution for application over scalp.
Keep me posted if you have any queries.
Bye.
