Never use any medicinal product for a purpose other than its intended one.
Buy a gentle cleanser and moisturiser for sensitised skin until your face settles down. Eucerin make an excellent range and so do Roche-Posay.
When your skin is no longer irritated buy a good acne gel. I recommend either Freederm or ByeByeBlemish. Use these products according to the instructions. Using more cream or leaving it on for too long will not help your acne clear up quicker, it will just make your skin sore.

I have used toothpaste on my skin before, same rumor going around my town, and from personal experiance there shouldn't be any scars, becuase the dry skin is just dead skin so nothing to worry about. If you put it on a large section (around your nose) and the dryness is emabrassing you then you can use a light face lotion, but the dryness along with the redness should dissapear and you can try washing your face with ice water to sooth the redness. I hope this helps....
