rash marks between thighs

Hi,
I have rash marks between my inner thighs and it has been happening on and off. I am not sure if it is just fungus or could it be something else. It occasionally goes red, and I have used anti fungal cream sometimes it works and sometimes it is not as effective. Sometimes it gets quite dry and itches cant use moisturizers either as it sometimes burns after.

The color of the area is lighter/"whiter" than the surrounding and cant seem to get rid of it. Last time I checked with the Doctor he mentioned to use anti-fungal cream, but i am really concerned as to how to get rid of this reoccurring if it is fungus and why is the skin color remaining lighter after the rash is gone?

Please let me know. It is driving me crazy.

Hello,
For fungal infection, firstly you have to use the topical antifungal therapy. The oral antifungal therapy is not without side effects and is available by prescription. For that a dermatologist needs to be consulted. I hope it helps. Take care and regards.

My daughter is taking Terbinafine for a fungal nail infection.  Almost immediately after starting the course of tablets, she developed very deep red, itchy patches under her eyes which initially burn when she applies moisturiser and make up.  Her doctor advised using Vaseline.  She is midway through her second 3-month supply of meds having been told the condition may need 6-12 months of treatment. Is the skin discolouration permanent?

Hi,

Thanks for your prompt response. However I do know what you are saying in general, but how do I get rid of it for good. Or at least be more successful? I have not tried the oral medication is there any major side-effects that I need to to be aware. Is it any different or more successful than the cream?

Keeping in mind that changing underwear or trying the cream more than 2 times a day is not practical as I am at work and it would be a nuisance to do so.

Please let me know any other alternatives.

Thanks in advance.

Hello,
This can be due to tinea cruris. Keep the area dry and after washing also dry thoroughly by pat drying, not rubbing. The damp groin is an ideal site for fungi to multiply. Also wear cotton underwear and change them twice a day and do not share other people’s towels.

Most cases of tinea cruris respond to over-the-counter products, which contain any of several basic ingredients: miconazole, tolnaftate, terbinafine, ketaconazole and clotrimazole. You can consult a pharmacist and get any cream or lotion containing these ingredients. If the symptoms are severe then oral antifungals may be needed.

It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
