Hi
As I live in Scotland UK i find it really shocking that people with type1 diabetes in your country have to pay for your medical care its disgusting as this is a Disease that you have to live with the rest of your live and can come with complications its about time yous got all your medication free and what ever medical equipment you may need I can count my self lucky that the insulin pump they are thinking about giving my daughter will be supplied by our hospital and all the equipment she needs for it we are very fortunate here that all diabetics medical treatment and all medication they need is free my daughter has just been give a new piece of equipment called a Guardian which moniters her glucose levels 24hrs a day and will go of if her blood sugar is going too high or to low which alerts us so we can sort things quickly and gives her peace of mind for at night and I know this little machine the size of a pager cost £3000 thats about $6000 and our hospital provided this free and the little sensors she has to insert under the skin for this machine
YEs, it's a Pretty sad situation, we either have to pay ourt over $10-$15,000 yr for a state health plan ( for just one person), or live at poverty level to get Medicade/ Welfare or just pay out of pocket until we get really sick and need hospital care, etc.. It's pathedetic isn't it..We already Have a National Health Care plan, it's called MEDICARE and they allow others in it besides Seniors, so why not T1's ? Maybe it's Like the Stop Light Syndrome... Alot have to Die before a Stop Light is put up..
There are several posts on this blog which have very good answers on MANY resources. Including the ADA website, JDRF web site, and PPA website as well as many county and state programs available to help with medical costs. Each area is different so you have to do the research yourself to find it. Those are a few places to start. Good Luck !!!
Hi. I would suggest contacting JDRF's Online Diabetes Support team. They should be able to find you help. Here's the link for contacting them. Good luck.
