I just wanted to share this with everyone.

Dog is a Therapist", the license plate frame read. Pet therapy is being use in many different settings: nursing homes, hospitals, and clinic offices. Pets have an uncanny sense of pain and suffering. And they know when someone needs a hug. Look deep into a dog's eye. You can see the compassion and empathy. Nothing can be more comforting than spending time with a special pet.

That is why I bring my dog, Moose, to the office occasionally. I may not have a magic wand, but by golly, my boy, Moose, is able to wipe away the pain from someone's face in an instant. Some of my patient's are too frail to keep a dog. So when given the chance to interact with one, they really appreciate the opportunity to pet the soft fur or receive a wet kiss. Of course, Moose is more than willing to roll on his back to receive a belly rub. In a way, I envy my dog's powerful abilities as a healer. I am more than happy to share him. He is more valuable than most prescriptions I write.

The commercials for various drugs ask, "Are you feeling depressed"? When I hear this, I respond by saying, "Get a puppy"! Pills really cannot replace the joy of watching a puppy playing with such curiosity and enthusiasm. Have you watched a puppy chase his own shadow? Have you seen a puppy blow bubbles in the water bowl? These moments of joy provide buoyancy in times of trouble.

Dogs and cats across this nation are in trouble and need our help. As people lose jobs and homes, the most innocent victims are the pets that can no longer be cared for. Animal shelters are busting at the seams. If new homes are not found, then the innocent die. The best therapist in the world may be sitting in an animal shelter near you. Seek and you might find one for yourself on www.petfinder.com. Everyone deserves a second chance. Those animals who are given a new life often times reward the new owner with boundless love. They have the capacity to be eternally grateful to you. By saving a life and you just might save yourself from suffering. Do you need a hug?

My sister and I have had a Decorative Painting business for about 12 years now. We have been in hundreds and hundreds of homes. This might sound crazy but it's proved true time and time again. We found that .....customers that don't have pets are extremely hard to please. They require about 10 more sample boards than pet owner's and are never completely happy no matter what you do to please them.
We actually even started secretly charging differently........we call it the "doggie discount". lol   The few times our theory has failed (no pets, nice customer) we later found out they recently lost a pet.
( I'm also ashamed to say....we usually remember the pets name and not the customers.)lol

I'm so glad you posted this story!  My critters keep me going every day.  Many years ago my depression nearly got the best of me, but because I had animals to take care of I had to stick around for them.  I've been feeling so bad lately, and right now one of my dogs is glued to my feet as I type.  DH and I often comment on how empty life would be without our dogs and birds and even the outdoor critters.  Anything that takes the focus of our own problems, issues, aches and pains and troubles is a good thing, and dogs in particular serve that purpose very well.  :-)

What you wrote is so heart-warming! How dogs are truly our friends and help us through our lives, through all the hardships, pain and suffering.

My mother suffers from quite advanced Dementia, she is unable to communicate properly about anything. She doesn't even know who her own sister is anymore, sometimes she's not quite sure who I am. Yet she always knows my dog. She is completely and utterly LUCID when she connects with my dog! She forgets EVERYTHING yet never forgets my dog's name/whether she's been fed/has she been for a walk, etc.  Relating to my dog takes years off her dementia, and brings her joy.

I do believe they are here not only to companion us, but to teach us many things.

The above article was written by a Doctor that specializes in pain managment and the dog she speaks of in the article his her Labrador Retriever.

I think we are all lucky to have a therapist at home with us everyday!

Everything that she wrote is so true. Since I have had all of my surgery my dog Bella stays by my side 24/7.

When I would get home from the hospital after surgery she always would lay her entire body over mine as though she was trying to protect me from the pain.

Priceless.
