What other pain meds can I use for my dog??

My 13 year old lab has moderate hip dyspepsia coupled with cancer of the bone in her jaw. I was giving her 1 estolac? pill daily but got to the point the other day that I felt she needed something stronger. The vet then prescribed Deramaxx, 100mg daily for pain. This does not seem to be working as well, furthermore I am paying $2.40 per pill!! I wish I were in a financial position to "treat her at any cost", but I am disabled and on a fixed income. I want to go back to the original pain medication for her. My question is this, is it possible to subsidize her medication with half of a Hydrocodone-APAP 5/500 every other day?? She weights 47lbs. If not do you know of a reasonably inexpensive pain medication that I could give her?? Thank you.

I found out my dog, Bear, had cancer on his right front elbo joint in January.  I can not afford to get him chemotherapy, but I don't think I would put him through that if I could afford it.  My vet gave him previcox for the pain, which cost $25.00 for 10 pills.  He wasn't through twenty pills yet and his blood work showed his kidneys were high.  I ended up taking Bear to a homeopathic vet who showed me a chart that had medicines listed and their side effects.  Renal failure was next to previcox.  He is so much cheaper too.  My first visit only cost me $75.00.  That included something right there and then for the kidneys a chiropractic adjustment because he was leaking urine, a chinese herb pills , some pills to build up his immune system, pills for his kidneys, something for pain, and some drops for the incontanance.  All of this was homeopathic.

I also give Bear ESSIAC tea and blood root (it is supposed to destroy cancer)  I also took him off anything with grains in it.  I give him a grain free food or raw meat.  I think what I'm giving him in combination to what I'm giving him from the vet has made a huge difference.  Bear couldn't get up or down by himself and had to drag his leg because he couldn't walk on it.  Now he can get up or down by himself, he can put pressure on his leg although he still limps, and he can even run!

Look for a homeopathic vet in your area.  He can give him something for pain with no side effects and give you something to boost his immune system since he has cancer.

There are many natural remedies with cancer fighting properties.  The ESSIAC tea and blood root I mentioned you can get at www.plantcures.com.  It is a month supply.  the blood root will last about 3 months.  There is cats claw, shark cartilage and astragalus.  All these you can get at a health food store.

Good luck. Keep us posted.
