hsg procedure

HI, I just got back from the doctor and you know how after you get home you think of several questions you should've asked..well that's where I am.  He told me I would being having the hsg test right after my period to call right when i start so they could schedule it 7 to 10 days later and then if that's okay it's on to laparoscopy.  My question is..even with possible endo and obviously being infertile is the hsg considered something specifically for infertility?  I'm thinking they're just going in steps but he also asked me how long i've been trying to conceive.  I'm asking because my insurance really don't cover fertility drugs or anything for infertility and i'm wondering if my insurance would cover this.  Thank you for the help.

                                                                                                  Sincerely,

Hopeful,

Thank you for the reply.  I talked with the Dr.'s office today and supposedly my Insurance won't cover it because it's "pre existing".  I have recently gotten my insurance in March of this year and they said i'll have to wait until march of 2010.  I'm just wondering if I asked about having the laprascopy done would it be considered "pre existing" also?  I'm new to this whole insurance and pre-existing stuff.  I only thought "pre-existing" would mean if i've been diagnosed, received treatment or things like that.  Thank you again.

                                                               Sincerely,

I had the HSG (for infertility reasons) but the doctors diagnosis was painful periods.  My insurance will cover only one in a lifetime--so I used my one time in April.  The insurance company said they know it's usually related to infertility so even though it was painful periods they decided to only allow one per holder.

bama,

Thank you so much.  I was getting a little worried.  I hope he's not getting the wrong idea, that i'm only there because I haven't been able to get pregnant.  He asked me yesterday how long i've been trying and I said around 6 yrs now but before I told him all of this "can't get pregnant stuff" I told him of all the pains I was having.  I want him to know that right now i'm there because I hurt so much and I think I have endometriosis, being able to get pregnant is my next step.  I was hoping to kill 2 birds with one stone here.  I have to call him the day I start and they'll schedule the test later but i'll be sure to let them know on the phone then that my insurance might not cover the test if they put it down for infertility.

Thank you again. Take Care!

An HSG can be used to check for fibroids in the uterus as well for pelvic pain or abnormal bleeding and it is common for infertility.

If you are concerned about your insurance not paying, you can ask your doctor's office to code the HSG for pelvic pain/endometriosis:  that way, you shouldn't have any problems getting them to pay.
