EBV isn't a disease, it's a virus. Did you mean to say you have mononucleosis?
Mononucleosis is a immune reaction some people get when exposed to the Epstein Barr Virus. By the time your an adult, there's a 90% chance you'll show antibodies in your blood for having EBV. It's a very common virus.
There's no such thing as getting diagnosed as having EBV.
Mono or Mononucleosis on the other hand, is very common. However, Mono doesn't last 8 years. So I'm a bit confused of what's going on..Can you provide more details please?
Hmm. My doctor would say that my Epstein bar virus could flare up and cause me issues in the future. I had a battle with it for a few years until the symptons went away. Maybe it was also considered chronic fatigue syndrome. I had so many scary symptoms when I first battled it. Swollen lymph nodes in the body, low grade fever, fatigue, dizzy, body tingles, chest pain, muscle aches, headaches, and depression. I went to a holistic doctor and spent tons of money of supplements and vitamins that my body lacked. After time all symptons went away after seriously 2-3 years of continous hell. It's been a good 4 years of healthy life for me until this last Saturday. I became really dizzy and I got the tingles in random parts of my body just like I did years ago. I was just curious if anyone else with the EBV or chronic fatigue syndrome or fibromylagia have had these problems. I'm a bit of a worrier and I always read info on the Internet usually self diagnosing myself with what I read. In this case everything points to MS. Which obviously scares the hell out of me but these symptons I've had years ago when I had all the EBV problems I had. I was diagnosed with mono but not for the entire time I was sick. My doctor specifically said it's espstein bar virus. Anyways I just had blood work done yesterday my doctor said I don't sound like any of his typical MS patients and not to worry. These symptons can be from a virus. Sorry for the long description:(. I'm pretty scared to say the least!
Thanks for the details! But try not to worry..Easier said then done, i know...
I also had a pretty rough battle with mono..It knocked me down hard for at least 6 months.
I could barely leave the house..And now, a year post-mono, I still get minor residual symptoms from time to time.
I used to get freaked out when i'd get symptoms after being symptom free for awhile..But they never progressed into the full blown mono like I was worried it would.
One study suggests that adults who get mono can have off and on systems for 2-5 years before it dies out completely. It describes it as a series of plateaus followed by exacerbation of symptoms, but gradually resolving over time.
I wouldn't worry about MS, because what your dealing with is your immune system's reaction to EBV. For some people EBV can make the immune system go haywire, because the virus can effect SOOO MANNY organs. Be reassured because you were in fact diagnosed with mononucleosis from the beginning, so you at least have an explanation for why you feel the way you do...Good luck friend:)
I have the EBV too, in my body and it reactivates and I can tell when it does, so yes, you can be diagnosed with EBV. I was. The EBV stays in your body always. For some people, they will never know. For others, like me and sounds like you, it will reactivate from time to time and cause issues with your immune system. If you look it up on the internet, there is lots of interesting reading. I also had the dizziness and the tingling, so I went to a nuerologist and he did several tests, sent me to a rheumatologist but basically what came back is that I have peripheral neuropathy, caused by the EBV. If you look up EBV, it will give you a list of different things it can cause in people and I have had 3 of them so far. It's not a fun list. But they put me on Gabapentin for the peripheral neuropathy, so please ask your doctor about that. It has helped me from day one. Also, they did check me for MS, but I don't have it. However; there are some spots in my brain they cannot identify and I believe that is also due to the EBV. I hope this helps you!
