OHL (Oral Hairy Leukoplakia) & EBV Relation

Hello everyone.

I'm wondering if anyone has had EBV and has had a white spot on the side of there tongue that resembles and has every characteristic/symptom of OHL (Oral Hairy Leukoplakia)?

I've tried to post this question in the HIV prevention forum but have found limited answers. I'm really concerned about this white spot I have on the side of my tongue. I've honestly read every post relating to OHL, EBV and HIV relations. I've read that its caused by the EBV virus but only common in individuals that are have a weak immune system (HIV or AIDS) while I've read that it can show up in HIV negative patients.

The white spot which is slightly raised does not cause any discomfort or pain and can not be brushed off. Its been present for 6+ months. When I can wipe it away which is very difficult it will show up again with in 12-24 hours.

If anyone would like additional information just ask.

I'm really concerned and appreciate any information.

I have had the white dot for 6 months also but as of 2 monthsago after the white dot a hairy line continues down the side of my tongue but only right side until the back and the inside of my cheeks are a little wihitish but ive tested negative several hiv test. I am taking another one tomorrow. I went to 2 different dentits/oral surgeons and they said they think I am biting my tongue when I sleep due to stress, but there is nothing new since this started in april except that it started also with palpiatiaons that I can feel pulsing hard 4-5 time in a row fast in many different locations in my body and I am sweating  more than usual but no fevers but I am more thirsty than normal and I dirnk a lot of water. SO bascially every 2-3 months I take another hiv test and after 2 more I will be satisfied that it is somtheing else and try to help my doctors figure out what.

Hi,

As I know yes it is related to HIV, but you should have lots of white patches on teh toungu mainly but can be on the inner cheeks.

This can also be caused by the Epstein-barr virus, honestly I wonder is anyone in teh world pays attention to EBV coz I think it creates lots of other problems.
