...not trying to start an argument; I just want people to find the right information when they come to Medhelp!
I'm curious as to what else your doctor had you do besides take acyclovir. It is an anti-viral medication that targets herpes viruses specifically, as I'm sure you're aware, so it may have helped stop the spread of the virus. However, you recovered because your body was able to suppress the EBV virus (as it does in the majority of people). Also worth noting, EBV will never be "gone" from your body; it remains dormant in your body the rest of your life (although it may be re-activated by certain factors such as stress, other illnesses, etc.). So what I'm trying to say is that, while the medication may have helped you, it is not a "cure" for mono/EBV.
i was diagnosed with epstein barr by an infectious disease specialist. he told me he could cure it. he gave me a medication called acyclovir----and the epstein barr was soon gone.
