since 7 years still sick.. suggestions on CMV EBV?

Hey there,

i got sick 7 years ago.. long time. I want to tell my story short:

Prior i became sick i had fatigue, became bad body odor under armpits, mild headaches and before got really sick i had swollen lymphnodes under my arms.
Then i got an acute onset of something, big headaches, really bad brainfog, no appetite, pain in liver region etc.. i went from doctor to doctor and after 3-4 visits, i was diagnosed with nothing.. i should go to a psychologist.
When i got sick, 2 months later a doctor tested me on EBV, here are the results:

EBV Early Antigen (IgG) 17 (Reference lower then 1)
EBV VCA Antibodies (IgM) <0.9 (Reference lower then 0.9)
EBV VCA Antibodies (IgG) 98 (Reference lower then 1)
EBV EBNA1 Antibodies (IgG) 98 (Reference lower then 1)

Well the Lab told me, that was an old infection, and for your information, 98 was the top of range the lab could detect. I thought ok, when the lab says old infection, then it should be like that. Today i know, that this constellation of Antibodies against EBV is showing a reactivation of the virus.
Prior to that my thyroid was checked and adrenals too... everything fine.
So i went to a lyme specialist who diagnosed me with lyme.. funny because when i look at my lyme tests.. they poorly!!! positive.. so i  began to take antibiotics for 3 years and nothing changed. I began to feel more creepy.. could not study .. nothing.. went downhill.
Finally 2 years ago i was testet in a lab which is specialized in detecting immune defects... everything was fine here too, they made a lyme blot too and everyrhing was negative, onle the lyme antibodies IgG were slightly positive. So i guess lyme never played a big role in my symptoms.
Later on i focused on my thyroid because there was detected, that i suddenly have antibodies and hasimotos..but not really bad. Taking thyroid meds pushed me a little bit, but i still have the same problems now like 7 years ago.
So 2 years ago again.. i made a LTT (lymphocyte transformation test) on all Herpes viruses.. all were positive but CMV was REALLY big time positive. The other viruses showed latent infection controlled by the immune system. I was given Valcyte 450mg a day for 4 months.. after that 2x1000mg valtrex (valacyclovir).. my CMV titers fell down the half and i stopped the medicine.
Now im thinking.. that all the time, all my problems are caused by the ebv virus.. and i think im right because all other things.. like:

vitamins (also vit D, B12 .....)
Infections (really all kind of Infections.. babesia, bartonella, toxoplasmosis... ETC ETC) were negative
hormonal tests showed only slight hypothyroid because of hashimotos.. ruled out with NDT.. adrenal etc. testet 10 times.. FINE

Now i will check EBV, CMV, HHV6 again. Is there a safetly method to recognize reactivated infections?
If a have theoretaclly really a chronic ebv and cmv infection would you take valtrex or better famvir? i would like to avoid valcyte because of the toxic effects.

best regards

Hey Jjewelz1987,

thanks for answering me. I was treated by an LLMD 3-4 years with antibiotics in various combinations... and nothing helped to get me in better shape. Like i said, the tests when i was diagnosed with "lyme", were only slightly positive.. and not all of them, a lot were negative also. The last test on lyme 2 years ago with an immunoblot was COMPLETELY negative. And because of my reactivated EBV when everything starts... i dont think that i ever had lyme... a famous doctor here told me also, that the slightly positive numbers i had for lyme also typical in healthy people.

best regards

Sorry I posted a faulty message above. You need to really look into Lyme disease.  It's a huge overlooked epidemic right now. The only doctors who can treat it are LLMDs  (Lyme Literate Medical Doctor ) infectious disease doctors,  primary care doctors and rheumatologist all have absolutely NO IDEA how to treat it correctly.

My best advice is to post in the Lyme disease section on this website.  There is alot of very knowledgable and helpful people on the medhelp Lyme disease forum!! I know from personal experience because I was sick like you and ended up having Lyme disease and I've known TONS of other people too that had the same situation!

Any questions feel free to ask!
