Does overmasturbation lead to permanent problems

Hi,

I am 37 years old, 6'1 and I have been masturbating since I was about 14-16 years old. It was around this time that I first viewed porn and masturbated but not necessarily in that order. I could honestly say that I have always had a healthy sex drive and never had a problem getting satisfaction. As you can probably guess I went at it (masturbation) like a dog with his bone. But it got so bad that I was always looking for time to masturbate even at the cost of socializing. Anyway, a few years ago I noticed that I needed porn just to get aroused and eventually it took over my life. Now i am at cross roads, I love porn but hate it at the same time and I want to give up the whole thing altogether (masturbation and porn). I would like to ask if I can recover from over-masturbation or have I damaged myself for life? I am getting back to dating but I am afraid and ashamed that my habits will get in the way of my recovery and relationships. My nether-regions haven't been damaged as far as have examined them on my own but I need to know if I can get help without surgery to get back my full on, hard, lasts for hours erection like I used to. Can anyone please give me some good advice?

I don't know about "lasts for hours erection", which sounds rather extreme, but my take is:  yes, you can recover from your over-masturbation and use of porn.  Whether you taper off or give it up cold turkey, in time you should recover.  Get back into dating, but break in easy with the intimate relations, letting things progress in a natural way, without having the pressure to suddenly perform.  Come back to this forum for further support.
