Erectile Dysfunction/Propecia?/Testosterone?...Please Help

Age of 24, take propecia.  My sexual desire dropped, no morning erections, and my ejaculate volume noticeably decreased.   After a month, and a horrible sexual experience, I through out my propecia.  Now 30, don’t get morning erections. Rarely wake up and find my penis a bit enlarged....but this is a rare event.  My sexual desire has greatly diminished, and if it was a 10 before propecia, I would say it’s now a 5.  I do get erect during sexual intimacy, but the erection quality is maybe a 5/10, and short lived.
At 28...went to see a doctor....  My testosterone level was 350, Viagra took my erection quality from say a 5 to 7 out of 10.  Now  30, and no change. Went to a different doctor.   Testosterone came out to 305, and my response to Viagra was the same.  He said that maybe the propecia  reset my system, and now my body is producing less testosterone that it needs for the sexual function that I am looking for.  He said that although my testosterone levels may be normal (even though they are on the low side of the scale), my body needs more.  He said that he would not recommend testosterone because too many side effects.    A testosterone level of 305 being low for me makes sense to me.  When I was 22, I participated in a research study at school....and one of the things they measured was testosterone levels.  At this time my testosterone level was in the high 400's.  He gave me a urology referral.  Can propecia be the cause?, 2) Although testosterone level of 305 is normal on the charts....can it be abnormal for me?, 3) If I try testosterone, will I become dependant on it for life? 4) Is there a way to have my body make testosterone more naturally? 5) Are there medicines that can boost my body’s ability to make its own testosterone, and once I stop these medicines, by body will continue to make more testosterone?  I mean can I reset my system back to normal? 7)  Can testosterone shuts down the testosterone I am presently making, and screw me for life.

Similar story here. I began taking Propecia in my mid-20s. Side effects came on gradually, but at the age of 30 my sex drive was gone and I was having bad side effects. I stopped taking Propecia, but two and a half years have now passed without improvement.

Hello there-
I am 21 years old and went on propecia when I was 19.  Let's say, to be conservative, I haven't had a morning wood in at least a year.  I never get horny or have the urge to masturbate.  I am in the WORST modes at all time and am afraid to even communicate to girls because of the defect I am working with here.  I am quitting propecia tomorrow after reading all these pages on the possible defects that are potentially at hand with the consumption of propecia.  It saddens me to hear all of the negative remarks that are done the road even after quitting.  I started balding when I was 15 and at this point it is no longer my concern.  I have never had a real girlfriend because of this ongoing issue.  If ANYONE has heard or know of any possible remedies for this issue we are all dealing with, please Lord let me know(would be greatly appreciated).

Sorry to hear about your issue. I would consult a doc right away and find what works for you. I am also a young male suffering from ED and recently I started to use Kamagra and it works wonders for me!  There are many other good products in the market for half of the price like generic Cialis(Tadalafil), generic Viagra (Sildenafil), generic Levitra (Vardenafil), Dapoxetine and Kamagra that work just as well depending on someone's preference. Just be careful where you order online, some orders don't arrive or are just junk. I got ripped off a few times, so use advisors. Try stay-fit-and-healthy.com, they are a good medical and sex advisor and work with legit pharmacies all over the internet. Better having an advisor site checking and verifying an online pharmacy is good or not instead of getting ripped off by a crappy one! Good luck to you! Michael

Me too, and my penis has gotten thinner a fair bit too maybe due to lack of testosterone? I get horny usually only with fetish stuff, although with gf of 6 yrs so could be less interest?  Want to have hair on your head? Girls/people see you every day interact, hard to be bald!! or a handful of girls, who should love you anyways.... for your whole liife... I choose pills. They worlk well, notice a difference every time ive stopped and started within 3 months.

I've been on Finasteride (generic Propecia) for about 18 months. I have no problems with erections or ejaculation, however I don't really care to have sex. I'm 35 and just received a testosterone test with my levels coming in at a 269 (normal is @350). Perhaps I should stop taking it now...

Also dudes. Never take really hot baths or showers. Also sleep naked. Nuts ain't meant to be overheated like that. Take zinc also. I still recomend test and hcg shots if test is low levels. But this is just extra advice. Also leg workouts and jogging helps too.

HCG shots may send your levels to healthy range. But in only 30 percent of cases. You many need test shots along with HCG. You should be in the 900 range. Yes it is a liftetime of needles. But sex is worth it.

Hi guys!! I know that it is very easy to take a pharmaceutical and feel better but I would reccomend you to get examined properly... It is surely more responsible to win some knowledge in any clinic that examines specifically erection problems. Does anyone get my idea?

I'm 25 and i took propecia for 8 months... noticed a drop in libido, poor erections during sex, and watery semen.. I've been off propecia now for about 6 months and everything is back to normal... I think if I would have taken propecia any longer it might have done some real damage..

hey guys...better to shave your head and be a man than have hair on your head and be a *****.

I noticed within a week of taking propecia that my d*ck was not hanging as heavy and my libido took a huge dive. I stopped immediately. I'm very aware of my body and knew immediately that my test was being affected (duh, how do you think you're getting any hair growth??)

Lesson: baldness isn't a bad thing. I get p*ssy all day long with a shaved head. Losing your mojo IS.

Hi Guys,

If you notice if you scroll up you will see a post i wrote in Feburary. I have a question for you guys: When I made that post, I remember being in a different webpage that had tons more info about propecia and erectile problems. When I was at that website, I made the post which is now on this page. I put it down as a favorite on my web browser so I could always find it and come back to it. Now, when I open that favorite bookmark.....it takes me to this page where we are no where I made my post.

My question in...what happened to the rest of this "forum." Where are all the other links? I remember there was one explaining "this site is for me who used propecia and now suffer from etc etc etc..." and then another link where you could look up some doctors that seem to be know all about this problem.

Where did this site go? It was something like "The propecia help forum"

Thanks.

wouldn't this information be widely distributed if it was 100% true. Like those commercials that list the side effects for 20 minutes at the end? you'd figure a drug company would post all side effects to avoid huge lawsuits.
I am having similar erectile problems.  I've been on propecia for about 6 years and I'm 31.  I've talked to a few doctors and they all say the drug is relatively harmless.  I'm also taking cymbalta, which can cause these effects. I've been to my primary doc, an endocrinologist, and the dermatologist who prescribed me the drug. so far the best answer I can get is that the problem is both psychological and drug related.

I just wanted to add to what has ben said here.

I started taking propecia when 27, at the time I had no problems with erections or libido or anything like like. I am a healty active in shape guy. Then after about 9 months both started to decrease after two more months I stopped taking it because this problem started getting worse.

Now over a year later after not taking propecia I still have the same problem. Only semi hard in the morning. After having sex once I can't get it up again for a few hours.

I wish I would have NEVER taken propecia. If it only effected sexual functions when you were on it that is one thing but after a year off it I am still having problems.

Hi, dibadnahk:

I have a similar story. I am currently suffering sexual dysfunction like decreased penile sensitivity, difficulty getting/maintaining erections, loss of spntaneous erections, and low libido.

I used propecia from when I was 20-23 years old. Now 24 years old.

In the first two weeks that I started taking it, I experienced erectile dysfunction and low libido, but then I read that with continued use, the side effects go away. So I continued using it, and luckily, the side effects had completely gone away and I used the drug for 3 years with no problems. If anything, my libido was slightly increased using propecia (which is a known side effect in some users).

However, in June 2007, I started experiencing the sexual side effects and could not even get an erection at all. So, I stopped the Propecia. About 5 days later, I regained my libido and everything was fine as I had expected.

However, the side effects slowly returned and 3 weeks after stopping Propecia, I had extremely low libido and if I could manage to get an erection, it felt numb with little sensation.

I've stopped propecia for 14 months now, and my libido and erection quality is extermely poor. I've seen many doctors, taken many blood tests, all with no success. I am certain the problem is not psychological.

Hi,
I have been on propecia for 2 years and have had the same problems that some of you mentioned like ED, lower sex drive, decreased ejaculation, watery semen etc.. I consulted my doctor and he gave me Viagra 50 mg. I took it once but didn't see any effect. I do have erections and I masturbate almost every day. I'm concerned that these side effects might be permanent. Anyone has any idea if viagra or cialis will increase the sex drive in our case (propecia users)?

I'm 41 and I started noticing a decrease in sex drive and erections for about the last 10 years.  I have never taken Propecia but my symptoms sound very familiar to what I'm reading here.  When I first noticed it I thought it was caused by stress but things never seemed to improve.  I went to see a Urologist last year and after I told him about my symptoms he quickly prescribed Viagra.  He said that it would improve my erections and give me a confidence boost in bed.  Well, I never had a "confidence" problem, my problem was lack of libido.  Obviously if my libido is low, my erections aren't going to be as "erect" as they should be.  That's like telling someone who has no appetite to eat and they will begin to get hungry.

Since then I tried Viagra, Cialis and Levitra without much success.  Sometimes they would help, other times not.

My family doctor tested my testosterone level and the results came back normal.  I know something is wrong.  Even though my testosterone is within a certain level, I don't feel normal...I haven't in a long time.  My doctor said it might be caused by stress.  I told him the only thing that is stressing me out right now is my lack of sex drive.  I use to be one of those guys that girls would say "is that all you ever want"?  Now I have little to no desire for sex.  Even masturbation isn't that satisfying anymore.

Last night I took a Cialis and tried to have sex with my wife.  I had no interest to begin with and even after she started giving me oral sex I still had no interest.  I got frustrated today and made an appointment to see another Urologist.  I explained everything to him and told him that I knew there was something wrong and it wasn't stress.  He said that there are many testosterone tests that don't get performed automatically and that my family doctor probably just ran a basic test.

I took anobolic steriods for a brief period about 20 years ago so I hope that didn't cause perminent long-term damage.

I'm going in tomorrow morning to get blood taken for thorough tests.  The results will be back in about two weeks so I'll post a new message letting you know the results.  I'm not giving up until I get answers.

I'm having some problems myself I never took propecia though. I can say that the "normal levels" are not the same for everyone it is general and young males should be in the upper third anything else should be considered low. Hypogonadism is one cause. There are lots of other things to consider though like free testosterone, random testosterone, estradiol, hepatic profile, Dhea levels, prolactin, thyroid function, corisol..........and ratios like testosterone to estradiol or estrogen are important. I think it could be said that you guys had hormonal problems before you took propecia. I know going bald is hereditary, but the fact is that it starts when

-the body is producing to much testosterone that is being converted into DHT

-Or some other type of imbalance is causing excess DHT

DHT causes hair loss

I am in the exact same boat as you guys except no propecia for my hair loss I also have gynecomastia and I am awaiting my hormone test to see if there is an underlying cause.

scared as $hit I hate waiting

I feel like dr's just want to take the easy way out.....they do a testosterone test....its within normal range....so everything is all right.  We know.....everything is not all right.  I dont know what to say.  I think dr's should at least give you a chance to try testosterone replacement at low doses to see if it helps.  Just because a testosterone level is in a normal range does not mean that that it is normal for you.  The normal testosterone level is a very wide range, and what can be normal for someone, may not be normal for someone else.  If you find anything that helps...please let me know.  As for me.....I have spend a few hundred buck on herbal supplements...and none of them have helped.

To my horror I came across this page and saw your posts. I stopped taking propecia more than a year ago and have not regained any of the sexual funtion i lost while taking the meds. My erections are LAME, my seaman volume is a joke (and it used to come out like a garden hose) and my orgasms dont even feel that great. I can go months and months now without masterbation and dont even feel horny. This NEVER used to happen to me. If I didnt have sex at least once every 3 days, I usually had to masterbate because of how horny I became. I even believe that my testicles have literally gotten smaller in size after propecia. I remember just how big they used to get after lack of sex and now they look half that size no matter what. I feel lost and depressed and terrified that I have done permanent damage with propecia. I went to a urologist and almost broke down in his office. He made me want to scream because he said everything looked ok and my testosterone levels (to him) were normal.

I am wondering if testosterone supplements will be the answer for me. Have you figured out anything else about your problem?

Let me know if anything helps...I got a urologist referal...but kind of anxious about going....im gonna try some herbal stuff and hope for the best.  Im somewhat out of shape....so Im gonna try to exercise more, lift weights.....so at to try to naturally increase my hormone levels.  For me...I know its hormonal....I can just feel it.  The degree my erections have decreased is the exact degree my libido has decreased....they have decreased in proportion.  In college i participated in a study and my testosterone was in the 400's....now its in the low 200's.....I wonder if I should start taking testosterone....but that idea scares me....gonna try the natural stuff.  If you find anything that works....please let me know.
