Unfortunately retina surgery is so unique and different that we cannot generalize as we do with cataract/intraocular lens surgery. If the number of floaters suddenly increases, or there are flashes of light or loss of peripheral vision you should contact your surgeon immediately. You will need to direct your question to your surgeon next visit. The answer will depend on whether you have oil or air in the eye, whether there was a vitrectomy done, whether there was bleeding and other variables. Remember your other eye is at high risk of a RD also and report any new floaters, flashes or loss of peripheral vision immediately in the fellow eye also.
