Malcular Pucker Surgery with 20/40 vision.Should I have it ?

Hello ! Has anyone had malcular pucker surgery for an eye that has 20/40 vision ? I am 66 years old and know that
the earlier you have this done...the better the outcome may be. Could I resonably expect to get 20/20 back in this eye ? My other eye is 20/20 but of course need reading glasses. Any comments in regards to your experiences with this type of surgery would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again for your advice ! I had the surgery in June and have some improvement but still waiting/praying  for more. Do you have any improvement ?  Has the swelling subsided ? I have read that it can be a really long process for some of us...sometimes 1-2 years !

Dr. O,

I had the malcular pucker surgery in June 2013. Vision before surgery was 20/80. It is now around 3 months post op and vision is still 20/80 but correctable to 20/50. Near vision is better than before. Dr says to give it more time. Do you have any comments on how long it can take for swelling to go down and vision to improve? Thank You !

I had macular pucker/vitrectomy surgery but I was at 20/200 before I realized I didn't just have an eye infection from makeup.
I ended up better, but my retina and macula area are still swollen 1 1/2 years post surgery.  Developed a cataract and had cat. SX last March.

What I would suggest is that this surgery is a serious surgery that needs to be done by the most skilled retina surgeon you can find.  Try to go to at least one more Retina Specialist outside of the first ones practice.  Ask to see the OCT test results and have them show you exactly what is going on with your eye.  Don't just take one Retina sp. word for it because the surgery is not always successful, in regards to vision improvement and there are many risks involved.

Proceed with caution, but if your insurance covers additional opinions/consultations I would suggest getting a couple as fast as you can.  Gives you piece of mind knowing you made a balanced decision.
Good luck !

Get it done.  At 20/40 you have a significant pucker.
