Optic Neuropathy after vitrectomy Detached retina surgery

Hi

Can anyone tell me over time if your vision from optic neuropathy can improve.
Had surgery 8 months ago for  detached retina and vitrectomy. My vision was 20'20 before
surgery never improved after surgery. Now i am 20/100 with a little help at best.I am
told that over time might get better after 1-2 years. Maybe have 20/40 eventually.Has
anyone had this problem.I am disappointed that this happened after the surgery.

If you have not seen some improvement in the last serveral months that's a bad sign. Its true that knowing the final visiual acuity often takes 9-12 months but optic neuropathy often makes the recovery from RD surgery poor.

If you vision gets to 20/40 that would be ideal but likely won't happen.  You can of course get a second opinion. Find one at www.aao.org
