Seeing bright gold rings upon waking

Not sure where to post this. For the last 3 months I've been seeing brought gold rings when I wake up. If I look left or right with my eyes closed I see a bright gold ring (bright as if I were looking at the sun). It only happens in the morning and goes away after a couple hours. It could be pitch black in my room and I still see them. I've tried changing things I do at  night, go to bed earlier... later... Wet wash cloth on my eyes... Etc. Nothing changes. I've never had a migraine and have 20/20 vision. Not on any medication. Went to my PCP today and they had no idea and no suggestions.

It is a unusual symptom and does not call any one condition specifically to mind. You should have your family MD refer you to an ophthalmologist Eye MD or go to www.geteyesmart.org and find an Eye MD near you. It does call for a medical eye exam by a physician MD
