I was told the same thing, she didn't explain what would happen exactly but she made it sound like if anything happened I could go permanently blind in my eye with the mark. She also said that if I get any sort of head trama that I would then split the mark open.

The risk of going blind is very very small. Usually these stretch marks occur in eyes are are quite myopic or nearsighted. See an ophthalmologist  annually.

It is highly unlikely that person will respond as no postings in many years. If you want to formulate a new questions based on your fiance's symptoms and post it I will try and answer.  JCH MD

Hello, I know this article is from years ago, I just need help my fiance was told he has the same thing and is panicked about losing his sight. No one, wants to lose their sight at a young age or any age for that matter. At pinky_fairy do you still have sight and has it been any worse since you've posted this question? Or was there anything you did to prolong the loss of sight? I am really desperate to find answers and help. Is this something genetic or just something that happens?

You are 21 years old.  It is most likely to occur if it does much later in life.

I had risk factor as you from my 30's and had a retinal detachment at age 62.  This is my area of subspecialty training and I went in as soon as there were changes in floaters.  My detachment occurred 6 weeks later.   I had a total of 5 detachment surgeries followed by a cataract surgery and I will almost 20/20.

The most important thing for you is to have yearly check ups and see your doctor if there are any changes in floater or flashes.

You have a risk factor for retinal detachment.  Risk is very low.
