Possible that the ophthalmologist missed eye herpes?

A few weeks ago I noticed my left eye is a little red and irritated. After not getting better I went and saw an ophthalmologist. He said it's a bacterial infection and gave me antibiotic + steroid drops. It has been 7 days and my eye still feels irritated. I started to think maybe this is eye herpes and he missed it? Is it possible that he missed diagnosing me properly?

The signs of herpes eye disease can evolve over time and it is often difficult to diagnose in the early stages.  If you have herpes the steroid will make it worse.  You might want to call the ophthalmologist for advice.
