Just checked an internet price. 90 vials one vial used one drop each eye twice/day will last 2 days. $150 that will last 6 months. JCH MD
My wife and I are both on restasis. Surely you don't mean you're paying $420/month for restasis. That surely is for all your medications. You can buy restasis for cash, no insurance for much less than than and also there is a discount coupon available from the manufacturer. You can also buy on internet from pharmacies e.g. Canada. MOREOVER if you use one vial up completely it will last 2 days. If you used as directed you would use 4 vials. This cuts your cost by 75%.

I too was diagnosed with dry eye for the same reason a year ago and found my tear ducts were at a 3 out of 10 range for tear production. My eye doc put me on restasis and it has helped tremendously as I am now up to an 8. My insurance company changed my prescription coverage and now I will have to pay $420 a month for my medication. Yea like now I have a choice of either being blinded by tears every night and have itchy red eyes all the time or going broke. This is not as bad as some medications that are needed to sustain life but still at my age 64 I really should not be in this position when we pay the highest premium ever for insurance thru my husbands retirement plan. I understand your frustration since with my previous insurance my copay was $33 a month and that was a year ago. WTH happened in a year.? Good luck with your treatment.
Thank u for ur reply, I greatly appreciate u taking the time to do so!!:)
1. Go to Dr. Hagan's blog and read the section on dry eyes.
2. Use the search feature and archives and read about dry eyes.
3. The new name is "tears dysfunction syndrome"
4. One type waters all the time.
5. The condition is much more common in women than men and extremely common in menopausal and post menopausal women.
6. Likely you are a good candidate for restasis.
7. Make an appointment with an Eye MD ophthalmologist. Find one near you at www.aao.org

To add some history, my eye dr explained to me several years ago that I have "dry eyes". That my ducts don't produce tears or something like that so I have to use over the counter eye drops daily. This burning, painful, running eye thing began just a few months ago and mainly comes on in the evenings and my "flare ups" last anywhere btwn 15-20 min at a time. It burns even while the tears are falling. I havnt got this checked cuz its something I just deal with. I want to know more about what I am scheduling to see the dr for. I treat myself alternatively and rarely use western medicine. However I feel something is not quite right about me having these "flare-ups" and since I have insurance but not the money to pay my alternative healer, then I'm open to going back down a western medicine path once I have somewhat of an idea what I may be dealing with.
