constant swirly patch in eye- not floater- blind spot
Does anyone have similar problem?
I am 23yr old female and recently developed a ‘spot’ in one of my eyes. It began as an afterimage that lasted for several days and is now also visible when my eye is open. Its not a floater as It stays in the same place in my visual field (just up to the right of the centre of my vision). Its also not dark but a swirly patch that kinda reminds me of light refracting off water. It doest flash or cause pain it just stays the same. Same place in vision, same size, same swirling within its area. Its just mor noticalbe than when It first turned up. I have been to a retinal ophthalmologist who thinks there is a darkish patch is my eye somewhere that corresponds to what I see but cannot identify a specific problem yet. A visual field test has shown that it is actually a blind spot in that eye. I am due to see a Neuro ophthalmologist soon for further tests but would like to know if anyone else has had similar problem or know what it could be?

Thanks for answering! I seriously do have the exact issue as you- it's funny because I just noticed the other day that it IS in my other eye too, but it's not nearly as obvious. It is literally just like yours.
But- I have never had a seizure. My brother had one at 15, never explained- but I've never had one myself.
I will definitely let you know the results of my MRI. It's so strange given that we're otherwise healthy and so young. I started having a lot of strange neurological symptoms after my daughter was born (at 23). Let me know if you start to get mild tingling in the extremeties or any floaters- I literally went from no floaters to what feels like hundreds of them! It's good to know your visual symptom hasn't gotten worse...that makes me feel so much better given our cases seem to be so much alike

I have been to the neuro-ophthalmologist. The patch is still there but things are definitely more complicated now. I realized it’s not in one eye per say but in the same place of both. I didn’t notice this before because the left eye seems less for some reason. But it is a problem in the same exact area of my visual field one eye, two eyes or eyes shut. So it’s not a problem with my eye but more likely with my brain. The neuro ophthalmologists have done another visual field test and believe there are no underlying diseases/disorders but the patch(es) are still there and because it is easy enough to live with and it isn’t really getting worse they have decided to leave it 6 months for more tests later. They think it might have something to do with the fact I have a mild form of left temporal lobe Epilepsy. They also decided not to do an MRI because I had one done about 3 years ago to see if they could find a cause of the epilepsy. Anyway since its not bothering me so much I’m just going to keep an eye on it (sorry about the pun) maybe email my old neurologist. Then get it tested again later in the year.
It does worry me though as I have my epilepsy under control (there was not identifiable cause for it) and I haven’t had a seizure since starting my meds. So how this is linked I don’t know exactly. But apart from the sudden initial progression this visual problem seems to be staying the same. So that’s something.

Yep I have EXACTLY what you speak of!!! exactly. I just went to an optometrist yesterday and they could find nothing wrong with my eyes at all- so I'm being referred to a neurologist. I would go to a neuroophtomologist but I've also had tingling in my feet and some other neurological symptoms for the past 3 years so that's why I'm choosing a regular more general neurologist.
Have you had any tingly symptoms? do you have lots of floaters? I can totally relate to you. It's sooo scary!!!!!

Since you have seen all the right professionals I will not speculate. Seeing a neuroophthalmologist is the next step.
