I am 52 years old and reside in India. I had been wearing eye glasses for nearly 35 years from the age of 11 upto 46 for short sight(myopia). At the age of 46(2002) I had undergone surgery for cataract in both my eyes on two consequtive days and was fitted with monofocal IOLs. A couple of years later, during a routine check up a small hole in the retina of my left eye was detected on the periphery and it was treated with laser coagulation. Subsequently I got myself checked every 6 months. After the regular check up in the year 2007 the doctors told me that it would be sufficient to get my eyes checked once in a year as everything was normal. However, when I went for the annual check up during Feb.08, another hole was detected in the retina of the same left eye, again in the periphery but at a different location. The doctor suggested that I undergo a Scelar Buckle surgery immediately. However,I went for a second opinion at another eye hospital and they opined that a laser coagulation treatment is sufficient.Subsequently I underwent the laser coagulation treatment for the second hole as per their advise.
Due to some other problem in my eyes(redishness and burning sensation) I went to another reputed eye hospital in the city for a check up. The retina specialist at that hospital mentioned that it would be better for me to undergo the Scelar Buckle in my left eye as a measure to prevent further detatchement of the retina from the periphery to the centre. I am now totally confused. Can anybody help me?
