pseudohole and retinal wrinkle becomes worse

I've had a wrinkle on the retina (right eye) since 2007.  Later, a pseudohole developed.  Even with the gray (yellow, red, or black) area in the visual field, (color changes with light or background), I could read 20/20 to 20/30, with diffifulty moving head to overcome the distortions. Recently my vision has worsened and now I can barely read anything, even large signs, as the grey area has enlarged.  My doctor told me these wrinkles hardly even worsened, and that mine was annoying, but not bad enough for surgery.  What could cause this sudden, drastic,  worsening of the problem?  I have had a bronchitis, with lots of heavy coughing.  I am sure that when I return for my exam (Friday) my vision will be less than 20/60.  I also see a large yellow splotch when I look at a white background..This is a real shock.

thank you for your comment.  Saw the doctor today who said it looked like the wrinkle on the retina, which developed a pseudohole, has now developed a full thickness hole.  He said tht it was, previously, believed that psuedoholes COULD NOT  turn into a true macular hole.  Many sophisticated pictures show that it doesn't have ALL the characteristics of a true macular hole, and this occurance is so uncommon, that he wants to wait and recheck it in 6 weeks.  he says there is a chance it will close up on its own and I won't need surgery.Any further comments?
Thank you.

You should get a flourescein angiogram to see if there is leakage from the ERM.  Also, a PAM test will help determine if the decline in vision is from the ERM or a cataract.
