retinoschisis

I am 23 and was diagnosed with retinoschisis in both eyes. Ive heard this doesnt normally progress to where you would need surgery but i am starting to notice changes in my peripheral vision, and want to now if surgery to prevent the schisis from growing is a good idea? has anyone had this surgery? who performed your surgery and what complications if any did you encounter? thank you for your help!

Retinoschesis is a splitting of the retina that starts at the edge of the retina and sometimes moves inward toward the macula. If such advancement is seen "hot" laser marks are often placed in from of the schesis to create adhesions to stop the spliting from getting bigger.

Go to Google IMAGES type in retinoschesis and see what it looks like. Likely you will find one also that has been treated with laser

If you notice changes in your peripheral vision you need to see a retina Eye MD ophthalmologist as soon as possible. Call today. I have retinoschesis. Never needed surgery and never progressed in 30 years but some do progress
