Estradiol Question

Hi ladies, I had my first IUI cycle in August, and my Re prescribed estradiol because my levels were low and my lining wasn't thickening.  Well, the IUI worked (yay!) and the nurse I talked to said that I was supposed to stay on the estradiol and prometrium until I was 8 weeks.  I mentioned that estradiol says it can cause birth defects and to not take it if you become pregnant.  She said I was ok because my levels were low to begin with. Well, I found out today (after calling to check a second time) that she has "left" the fertility clinic.  Now I'm worried. I don't know that I should be but DH has been flipping out about me taking the meds, and now I'm worried that she was wrong and I'm harming my baby somehow. Has anyone been prescribed estradiol past when you found out you were pregnant?

thanks for letting me know-a little part of me panicked a little bit when I read your post!  I will also be on mine for 10 weeks.  Congrats to you!

I talked to my new nurse this afternoon, and she confirmed that it is perfectly safe for me to take both meds. She said since my levels are low on their own that the meds just bring them up to where they're supposed to be. So I'm supposed to keep taking them until 10 weeks

I wouldn't worry-I have been on it since my ER and I am now 7w3d pregnant and have been on it for over a month.  I am to stay on it for another 2 weeks.  Your RE wouldn't give you something that would harm the baby.  But I am sure you talking to them will make you feel better.  Good luck.

I've left a message already...I have a class with me right now though so wont' be able to check my voicemail til 4.  I wouldn't be so worried if the woman on the phone hadn't sounded kind of weird when she said my nurse had left.  But now I'm starting to question what she said.

I'm not really worried about the prometrium, since I know a lot of women that have stayed on it their first trimester, but I haven't heard of anyone on estradiol

I was prescribed it while ttc and on Clomid. I was to discontinue use once I either got a BFP or AF arrived. I did however stay on the progesterone until I was 12 weeks pregnant.
Hopefully someone else will pop on and be able to give u an answer.

In the mean time call the office again and lv a msg for the doctor. Mention your concerns and I am sure they will be able to set your mind at ease.
