Is anyone starting IVF in October 2008?

I was looking for others to communicate with during my first IVF cycle.  I will begin Lupron on Wednesday October 22.  I went through 4 failed IUI's this summer.  I am 34 years old.  I have a daughter who will turn 3 next month.  She was finally conceived after almost 4 years of ttc and a laparoscopy for me and varicocele repair for my husband.  I have all my medications sitting here waiting for the next month.  Our embryo transfer should occur the week before Thanksgiving so we should know if we're pregnant by Dec. 10.  I am excited and hopeful, but realistic.  I know this procedure only carries a 50% success rate for any given cycle.  Any others out there starting IVF soon?  Add me as a friend and we'll keep in touch!

I'm sure everyone here has great care and supervision.  Some doctors are just more aggressive than others.

best wishes to you too. :o)     keep us posted

Wow, I think that's awesome.  I certainly hadn't heard of that before.  But it sounds like you are in the best possible care.  I would think the success rates would be much higher the way you are doing it.  My IVF knowledge is very limited to what I've been through and I  was surprised by your post.  Best wishes to you and keep us updated!  Wish we could all go to your doc.  Sounds like he's the best.  I'm very excited and happy for you.  Thanks for explaining it to us!

Yes, 6 total. I was told today all nine embryo's are grade A's and B's. They transfered 3 this mornimg. 1 A grade 8-cell and 2 B grade 6-7 cell.  i was suppose to go again saturday day 5 for 3 blastcysts but now they changed it to day 6 or 7.

imcrt- thanks for the good wishes and more healthy babies your way ;0)

wanna-be-preggers  maybe the more advanced and aggressive techniques are not permited in some states just like some countries do not allow more than two embryo transfer. I am in the hands of one of the top ten doctors involved in the first IVF baby in U.S, professor at UCLA, etc..  He is well respected and I have complete trust in him

koreangirl~great you had 3 fertilize naturally!  That's great!  Better than none!  We did ICSI because the doctor recommended it.  My DH sperm count was sporadically low so they decided to do 60%natural and 40% ICSI.  ICSI was good in our case because 5 out of 6 fertilized and 2 out of 9 with natural.  But if you got 3 good embryos naturally that is wonderful!  Good luck with your transfer Saturday.  My belly is finally feeling better but I still look 4 to 6 months pregnant from the big ovaries and fluid in my belly.  Sweat pants are my best friend right now!

Jezebel~I agree with lmcrt, I was very confused when I read your post.  I have never heard of 2 separate transfers within one cycle!  It seems like a risk to go in with a catheter once they have already placed embryos in there.  Why risk infection or disturbing the embryos in any way by opening up the cervix?  Never heard of this!

Lolagirl~A very warm welcome to our thread.  I'm glad you joined us.  We know women get pregnant in their 40's through IVF and there's no reason you cannot be one of them.  If you don't try it you will always wonder.  Yes there is a financial risk but you have to decide for yourself if you can handle it financially. I would think as long as you are not sacrificing your rent/mortgage/food money, why not give it a try?  So were you medicated this cycle?  You might have one perfect egg in that follicle and other great eggs in the smaller follicles.  I really think you should give it a try.  Remember you do not know if you do not try.  Keep us updated on how things go for you!  WIll say prayers for you tomorrow............

Hi!
I'm new here to this thread and thought I'd dive in! I've been on other threads on this sight but trying to find one where I might be a good fit. I'm 42 and trying to conceive as a single mom (no boys have signed up for the Husband slot yet ;)) I have had 3 IUIs all unsuccessful. My next step is IVF. It seemed like a big plunge but due to my age, my Dr says it's the best option. I go in on Friday for egg retrieval. I'm a bit nervous as I only have one dominant follie and 3 smaller ones. I can't help but think it might be a waste to go for it with only one follie? What if it doesn't fertilize? I have heard many time that IVF for older women is better unmedicated resulting in less follies but the quality is better rather than medicating and having multiple less quality follies. I've been racking my brain over whether to sit out this cycle and go forward when my odds are better with more follies. Naturally my insurance doesn't pay for anything for it's all out of my single girl pocket! Any thoughts? Thanks for any word of encouragement or advice ;)  Happy Thanksgiving!
