anyone starting shots for an IUI?

Just looking for some cycle buddies!  I started my injectables on Tuesday for my second IUI (I've also had a round of IVF).

I see.  I don't think your dr should cancel your IUI as long as you are ok going through with it.  Even if you have more than 4 mature ones, not att will take and unless your estrogen is sky high, I would go through with it....what do u think?

kmcarino - sorry I never answered your other lupron question.  I've never actually heard of Ganirelix/Antagon, but I'm sure if you posted something about it, plenty of women here probably have used it.  Yes, my RE's office generally uses Follistim and Lupron, and I think they may also do Gonal F.  From what I've read though, Ganirelix/Antagon does the same thing as Lupron.

I have never taken 2 shots of Lupron - I take one shot, at the same time with my Follistim shot.  I have only ever taken .05 of Lupron, but I am also on an extremely low dose of the Follistim, so that may have something to do with it.  If you have any questions about what you are putting into your body, I would not hesitate to ask your doctor about it.

As for multiples, we certainly wouldn't mind twins (I don't know about many more though!), but the fact of the matter is that if I have more than 4 mature follicles, my RE will cancel my IUI.  Last time that happened, and they were able to convert us to IVF, but we were on a state grant then.  The grant money is gone, and our insurance doesn't cover it, so IVF is NOT an option for us right now.  Certainly not something where we're gonna come up with 14K on a whim if they cancel the IUI anyway.  The first IUI we had we were very close to them canceling it, because I had 4 very mature ones and another 4 or 5 that were just a millimeter or two less than what they consider mature, and since they do the IUI about 48 hours after that u/s, there was plenty of time for them to grow.  Plus there were several more just behind those in size.  I just do not want to be put in the position of doing selective reduction when we've tried so hard.  And I don't think we have the financial means right now to support more than two.

I am sure that even though you have a lot of follicles that only some will become dominant and a lot won't be in the game..they may be too small.  I would stay with the IUI and since you were on a low dosage and now an deven lower dosage, I don't think the follicles will grow too big.  Are you afraid to conceive multiples?  That can always happen but I hope that it works out the way you want it to.  I am CD2 right now and will be starting two shots a day of Lupron and Gonal tomorrow.  Did you take two shots a day of Lupron?

Thanks Hannah!

I'm a little nervous - had my first u/s yesterday and there are just way too many follicles from my polycystic ovaries growing in unison.  We can't convert to IVF, and since my surgery where they also removed scar tissue from the inside of my uterus (that will grow back), I'm really under the gun to do this quickly.  Not to mention we're paying out of pocket for even the u/s's - so all that would be down the toilet if they cancelled the IUI AND the meds we paid for would be wasted.  I was only at 75 to begin with on the follistim, which is a very low dose, but they lowered it even further down to 50.  From the looks of it, each ovary had roughly 8-10 follicles plumping up!  I have no problem taking my time on the low dose, I just really hope that some of them slow down while others take over.  Now I'm kind of annoyed that they made me go 4 days on this dosage before getting an u/s.  Then again, if I got one just 2-3 days into it, it would've probably been difficult to tell you how things were progressing.

I did send you a message I think two days ago but I must not have submitted or posted it.  Oh well...I was just asking you about Lupron since I posted a question about it and someone suggested that I talk to you about it.  Does your doctor put most patients on Lupron as opposed to Ganirelix/Antagon?  Or are you on Lupron for a special reason?  I think it is more common for people to take Ganirelix to prevent ovulation starting mid-latter part of the medicated cycle, so I am just wondering.  My doctors use Ganirelix but are trying me on Lupron due to the fact that the Ganirelix really hurt my cycle last month and I had to cancel the IUI.  My estrogen stopped increasing.  Anyway, good luck to you this cycle!  I hope to start mine in a few days.

kmcarino - I haven't gotten any messages from you, but Lupron is supposed to suppress ovulation.  Since you are stimulating the ovaries with the gonal F (or in my case, Follistim - they basically do the same thing), the lupron keeps the follicles from releasing the eggs.  You will stop taking the lupron when you do the trigger shot.

You may have heard of Lupron before - I know I had and I was confused.  It is the same hormone that they give women with endometriosis to induce menopause (hence the stopping ovulation for us) for six months to help slow the growth of endometriosis.  The difference is, that is given once a month at a much, much, MUCH higher dose - what we take for the fertility cycles is a teeny, tiny fraction of that.

Hope this helps - let me know if you have any other questions.

EVERYONE:  definitely keep me posted and good luck to everyone!!!

I am waiting for af and I will also be taking Lupron, but with Gonal F.  I sent you a message asking you about the Lupron.  Do you know what it is supposed to help with in your cycle?  This will be my first time taking Lupron for an IUI.  I just want to feeo comfortable with what I am taking since this will be my fifth cycle.  Good luck with your cycle!  Please share anything you can about the Lupron and IUI cycles.  Thanks!

Oh wow! Lots of appointments coming up! That's good, though ;-) Yeah, let's hope fourth time's the charm! I'm usually ready for trigger by CD12 or 13, but I'm not sure if the fact that I'm taking more shots this time will delay things. I guess I'll find out next week!

I'm doing follistim and lupron - I go for u/s's Sat, Mon and Weds - I suspect based on the last two times I did this that by Weds they should be sending me home to do the trigger wed or thurs - we'll see!

I'm excited but nervous!  I've had nearly an 8 month break from trying!  I really hopes it works this time.... third time is supposed to be the charm - right?  Or in your case 4th time :o)

Yeah, just one day apart :-) What meds are you on? I'm taking femara and one shot of menopur on days 3-7 for now, and then I'll go back next Monday on CD8 and will probably continue with the menopur shots until I'm ready to trigger.

I started mine yesterday :-) This will be our last IUI before moving to IVF, and my first full injectable cycle (I've previously done three cycles with just three menopur shots each month). Hopefully this will be a great cycle for both of us!!!
