clomid?

I am scheduled to meet with a fertility specialist in march as i was referred from my normal physician assistant to this specialist.  She said he would most likely put me on clomid.  Can anyone help me with the basics of the drug.  How does it work? Youhave to chart your BBT?  Side effects? cost?  chance of twins or triplets?  anyones personal results with the drug?  thanks so much in advance.  i'm trying not to be so depressed about not being able to have a child the "good old ""natural"" way" but whatever we have to do will be done.  I keep telling myself to keep my head up and things will be just fine but that's soo hard at times.  thanks for the advice, in advance!

I took clomid after irregular cycles...Dr said it would help to regulate things a little better. It did make my cycles more predictable buy I was on it for three months and didn't get pregnant. I have heard lots of stories of it working well for some women though. I always took it at night. I did have hot flashes and cramping around what I beleive was ovulation time but I never did BBT or anything. I'm sure that would help. It's pretty inexpensive and I don't think the risk of multiples is that high. I'm probably not much help but that's my experience with it. By the way, I see you're from Marshfield. I'm from Mosinee! Good luck to you!

Taking the Clomid at night really helped me with the side effects.

I also have been taking clomid for about 5 cycles now. I get really bad hot flashes. I think they get worse with every cycle and seems to progressively get worse. It's different for everyone though. Hopefully it works for you. I am on my 5th IUI with it so hopefully it'll work soon!

I have used clomid too. All the pill really does like ad_06 said is makes you ovulate and increases the number of healthy mature follicles. Now I took .50mg. and used clomid w/IUI. I guess those are things you want to discuss w/the doc. I don't think you should feel bad about having to take it at all, its just like an estrogen pill really it tricks the pituitary gland in your brain into thinking the body is not releasing enough estrogen so it stimulates and releases more and since estrogen is a naturally occuring chemical/hormone in a womans body i don't find clomid to be so far from natural. In any event the risk of multiples is not much higher than a woman not taking clomid would have so you don't have to worry too much there. Also I think its great you are going to a fertility specialist to try and sort this all out, its a good step to take and in the end you are more likely to get the results you want. this forum is great too:) You will find a lot of people who want to help make your ttc journey a little less stressful. As far as side effects of clomid, its different for everyone. I got a lot of side effects if you check my previous posts---go to my page and check it out. I pretty much outlined my journey w/clomid which I only used 1 month (with no success). But there are LOTS of women on here who did have success with it so don't get discouraged there. Ok well I hope that helps you out a little! good luck!

I am on my 2nd cycle with clomid.   There are some side effects of taking the clomid like hot flashes ect. but I haven't really had them. Clomid is to make you ovulate. and depending on what dosage you take whether you increase your chances of twins or triplets I think. I know a few girls that took it and only got pregnant with 1 baby. I do chart my BBT with it and use OPK's to give me a better idea of when I am going to O. Cost of clomid...if your insurance won't cover it, it is on the Wal Mart $9.00 drug list, so that helps out alot cause my insurance doesn't cover it.... I hope that some of this helped. I am just going by what I have read  on it. Good Luck.
